Agent: Songaila signs 5-year, $23M deal with Wizards

The Washington Wizards signed free agent forward Darius Songaila to a five-year, $23 million dollar deal, Songaila's agent, Mark Bartlestein, told ESPN.com.

Songaila's deal includes a player option for the fifth year of the contract.

Talk about overpaying..cool just another team with less money to make moves  I don't see him becoming anything more then a Brian Scalabrine. Glad we didn't sign him

wizards are moving backwards with a gawdy contract like that..

I think he is decent and has only improved each game with the Bulls. He may regress a bit getting used to a new coach and system, but he is a tough nosed defender and capable scorer that would have looked nice in a Cavalier uni.

The Wiz just got tougher, and have a bit of insurance in case they lose Jeffries.

5 year deal?! You've got to be kidding. They need bulk and toughness up front so they sign a PF whose specialty is outside shooting. Plus overpaying him...wow...way to go Washington, way to hamstring yourself for the next 4 years. Go you! :chuckles:

The good part is the Cavs didn't sign him, what would we do with 2 Donyell Marshalls anyway?

:weirdo: Are you serious? This guy isn't going to be that big of a contributor, they just drafted that Pecherov PF, they drafted Blatche last year, they have Haywood, Etan Thomas (immovable contract), and Ruffin.

It'd be like us going out and giving Dermarr Johnson 5 years 23 million, everyone would be like wtf? He progressed but he's still no where near worth the money they gave him. Wouldn't have looked nice because thats the kind of contract it would have taken to get him here, not when we have Marshall AV at PF with the Drew saga..

Another ridiculous overpay.

I'd rather sign no one at all then tie up a lot of money in bums like this. I think Ferry has learned this from the Damon contract.
