Wizards title bound... (lol)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm Sure Jamison said this off the record...

Didn't somebody on the Wizards team say LeBron was overated? Can't remember his name...

rabman- The Wiz always (when healthy) had the fire power to give some of the top teams fits, they even beat us last season and reamed the Celts. Yes, their inability to even try to play defense has been their Achilles heal, but I think Flip's zones will actually help them a lot.

Their depth is actually pretty good with Miller and Foye added to the roster, but their bench will depends a lot on whether guys like Blatche, McGuire, McGee, Young, and Crittendon are ready to contribute with any consistency. Oberto gives them some frontcourt depth, but they'll probably end up having to go small at times - which they always liked to do. Miller is a real interesting addition to their team with his height, shooting, and playmaking ability; and Foye may do for them what Hughes used to.

It really all depends how Arenas, Haywood, and Stevenson come back and if they can stay off the injured list. The #4 spot is up for grabs, IMO.

Heck, let's try to figure out their depth chart:

C: Haywood, Oberto, McGee
PF: Jamison, Blatche, McGuire
SF: Butler, Miller, McGuire
SG: Stevenson, Foye, Young, Miller,
PG: Arenas, James, Crittendon, Foye

If anything they may have too many backcourt players, and too few minutes.

Their best team in the past had the same 4 starters, but with Jared Jeffries, Antonio Daniels, Michael Ruffin, Etan Thomas, and scrubs. So they have a much better roster then that.

We should agree that Stevenson is not starter's material. And also, once they make it to the playoffs, it won't be any different than previous seasons. In fact, we should try to disregard the regular season in the Wizards' case. They'll win theirs in the Regular Season (if they stay healthy), but once it's game time, they don't have the right coach nor any of the proven "stars" to go beyond that.

If they stay healthy they're actually not that bad.
But they're never healthy.
I can see them making the playoffs, but Jamison put them in the same category as The Cavs, Magic, and Celtis?!?!?!?!

That's just:

The absolute ceiling for the Wiz is last year's Hawks... a respectable regular season, maybe a tough-fought first round win against a mediocre opponent, then a complete ass-whooping in Round 2. If they wanna call that "competing for a title" then so be it.

This I agree with 100%.

Stevenson when healthy and able to be the 4th man in their offense has played well, but I have no clue if he actually will start, it just makes some sense since the last thing Arenas, Butler, and Jamison need on the court with them is someone who needs the ball in his hands.

Their best bet in the playoffs is to get the 4th spot, and then they'll have a decent chance to get past the #5 team. I don't expect them to get far either in the playoffs, but it's way too early to even guess how the season will go for them.

He's turning into another case of the "Iverson/Marbury-has-the-ball" syndrome. I don't think he contributes in the most positive manner these days and his attitude has actually made the team better when he doesn't play. Maybe it was just one year, but the guy hasn't proven to be a valuable person too much. Besides, he was the idiot that got LeBron mad. Anytime you do that as a player, it's a no-no.

Well, it's just my thoughts. Do you consider Stevenson that better? He has cancer written all over him...

Nah, Stevenson isn't a cancer. The Wiz like him, his teammates like him, he's just struggled the past couple of years due to his own injuries and injuries to others. He has a big mouth ... but he hasn't bit the hand that feeds him, and his play style is complimentary (shoot 3's and play D).

I just think he's going to have a lot of competition this year at SG, and It'll be interesting to see if he can hold on to the starting job with so many other guards on the roster. Nick Young has shown flashes, Mike Miller is a proven quality player, and Foye was 16/4 last year with a lousy FG%, but decent 3pt%.

Alright, fine. I'll take your word for it, JonFromVA...

But let's see how he handles it this season. His mouth is like karma. If it's saying the wrong things, he's going to really regret it later.

But I guess he could make an impact that's positive, we'll see.

His mouth is like karma. If it's saying the wrong things, he's going to really regret it later.

Stevenson's "sin" was saying things with his mouth, that neither he nor his teammates could uphold on the court. He did it because he was pissed about some of the things LeBron had said about him and were relayed to him by his buddy Drew Gooden. Nothing more, nothing less.

Anyway, debating Stevenson's importance to the Wiz is like fretting about Sasha. He's a good piece when everything is going well, but not a key to anything, and very replaceable.

i think it would be more suprising if he didnt say they were thinking championship. that being said, it would be a successful season if they earned the right to have the living shit kicked out of them by the first seed next may - assumming they can win their first round matchup (not a given seeing as the only time this core was out of the first round was when they beat a bulls team that was giving major minutes to about 4 rookies and eddy curry)
