One team that will make a strong run at Gay is the Minnesota Timberwolves. Team owner Glen Taylor and president of basketball operations David Kahn have already targeted Gay as an attainable player to uplift the struggling franchise.

from the Memphis Commercial Appeal

Do the Wolves really have a chance in hell at signing Gay? Or would they have to overpay like crazy?

I don't think the Wolves have a chance to sign any big free agents ever. Just like the Cavs or the Grizzlies or the Bucks wouldn't have a chance. No one wants to play for a small market team when they can sign with New York, LA, or Miami. Sad truth, but nothing we can do about it. If the Wolves wanted Gay the only way it could happen is to offer the max. But I think it's just a better bet to draft Johnson, find a good center to play next to Love, sign some of the veteran free agents that won't demand too much, and call it an offseason.

I think they can offer him up to 14 million dollars. They don't have much to offer for s&t, maybe they can offer one of the PG's they drafted last year, they can absorb salary since they are under the cap.

Wolves want to team up Rudy Gay and Kevin Love so their fans can shout "Gay, Love" during games...

gay is a good fit there, if the timberwolves go in hard with a max offer they can and try to get him to commit, it might work. he is probably going to get a max offer once all the other free agents re-sign, but he might not want to feel like a back-up plan. Here the wolves targetted him outright and that is a great strategy.

It's something the Grizzlies missed by trading Love and opting for 'Gay Mayo' and the T'Wolves are going to have a great shot at 'Gay Love'. Great future marketing investment.

Rudy Gay is a steal in this free agency class, this dudes solid.

Not at the max.

We can afford to give him the max though because we have no shot at getting a lot of cap space anytime soon.

I hope Gilbert is looking into him. Memphis is only going to match up to $12M/yr IMO so it'd be a good time to sneak in and snatch him up in a S&T before he signs with another team that will offer him the max.

That team has extremely interesting pieces, especially if Rubio ever plays.

Gay will go to the Clippers, it explains their fanbase.

A move you would expect a terrible team to make....
