I thought this would be an interesting thread to start. I would ask if you could take back any OSU loss in your lifetime what would it be? I know they’ve had a couple of tough playoff losses to Clemson (2019) and to Georgia (last season) recently. But, mine would be the 1996 loss to the Wolverines in Columbus. They had a far superior team and were heavy favorites at home. They should have never lost that game. As it turns out they beat ASU in the Rose Bowl and would’ve been national champs with that win. I would be curious to see what others thought

Tough playoff loss to Clemson?

1978 Gator Bowl. Scarlet and Gray lost the game and their legendary head coach.

That’s the game I would take back. Not sure Woody would’ve lasted much longer but that was an awful way to go out.

I was too young to have watched/remember anything before 2000. With that said, I know the stories. 98 MSU in particular is pretty mind-boggling. Not only would OSU have been National Champions if not for that loss, but they would have been #1 from preseason through bowl season, which has only happened a couple times in the history of the sport.

Going way back, 1979, Earl Bruce's first season. OSU was undefeated and #1 and lost the Rose Bowl to #3 USC by 1 point. USC took the lead with under 2 minutes left. That's pretty rough.

Anyway, for games in this millennium, there's a few that will always stand out to me:

1) 2022 Georgia. Touched on it in the main thread, but if literally anything goes our way in the 4th Quarter, we win the game and go on to beat TCU in the National Championship.

2) 2019 Clemson. Also touched on it in the main thread, but this was a combo of self-inflicted mistakes and getting royally fucked by the replay booth. This game robbed us (and everyone) of what would have been an epic National Championship Game against Joe Burrow and LSU.

3) 2005 Texas. Man, OSU really beat the shit out of themselves in this one. Shuffling QBs, terrible red zone execution, Ryan Hamby...this game (likely) cost en elite OSU team a chance to play USC in the National Championship Game.

4) 2013 MSU. OSU had a flawed team this year, but their running game was basically impossible to stop and this game cost them an appearance in the National Championship Game against what would have been a heavily-favored Florida State team led by Jameis Winston.

5) 2015 MSU. This one might be higher on the list for some people, but if I'm being honest, this entire season was a shitshow from the very beginning. The coaches failed this team all season long, and it felt inevitable that a loss was coming at some point. If it wasn't this nightmare of a game, it would have been in the Playoff. With that said, for this team to have not even made the Playoff and get that opportunity is pretty mindblowing given the talent they had.

The UGA game and it isn’t even close. That was a natty. They win, entire narrative is different and the program isn’t facing massive buckling pressure going into this year with a brand new QB.

Tempting to list 2015 MSU @ the Shoe, as I think that OSU team could have won the title too. But they did not play up to their talent all year so there’s no guarantee they make it through the natty even if those Spartan cucks don’t get the upset.

Nah, gotta be the Peach Bowl. Really sucks. Even the Clemson game doesn’t compare because LSU was a buzzsaw that year. Nah man, fuck Georgia.

A point I haven't seen made about the Georgia loss is that it would have ameliorated the pain of getting our asses kicked by Michigan two years in a row. Losing to them always sucks, but knocking off the heavily-favored defending champs en route to a Natty win removes A LOT of the sting, especially after the way Michigan got handled by TCU.

I don't know about worst loss, but Ohio State's worst win was that 13-13 tie in 1992 against Michigan.

Michigan only lost by 6.

We were a missed field goal and game winning drive touchdown away from a National Championship rematch

It's 1998 vs MSU for me. It's been a while, so I don't recall specifics, but the team was favored by so much that game, and it was all that was standing between them and a Natty.

Last year vs UGA would have been awesome to have. The narrative about how unstoppable UGA was and coming so close. That targeting call. Man.

I remember they were up 17 to 3 or something like that. MSU punted the ball and it was a bad one but it hit the back of one of the Buckeyes feet. Sparty recovered and scored. That changed the whole game.

This Cotton Bowl loss was the worse I've ever seen an OSU offense play. I mean that was horrific.
