Would Chris Paul make the Pacers the top team in the east next season?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
David West is kind of playing himself into a nice contract though. And you would definitley have to let Granger go. I'm assuming just to have a shot at having enough salary.

Hypothetically speaking here.... what if Granger verbally agreed to resign with us, would you deal Andy and pick #19 for him? Is that even enough to get him?

No way, wouldn't want him

Really? I think it would be a steal for us if we knew he would resign with us. We will most likely draft Noel this year with the #1, so we'd be set at center. With a young Zeller as our backup center, Andy would pretty much be expendable. Package him with the #19 pick and acquire our starting SF for at least the next 2 maybe 3 years. Sounds like a pretty decent deal to me.

they could move out granger and hill (or convince dudes to take pay cuts) to clear cap space and sign him

cp3 with george, hibbert and west would fucking DOMINATE, fill in the gaps w role players and ring chasers, championship team

Cp3 adds the flop element as well...championship

That would be way overpaying for him.

I'm all for acquiring Granger but I wouldn't give up too much.

Funny more stars keep going to MIA, NYK and ect, and totally overlook teams liek IND and TOR who are literally one piece away. Nobody wants to work to turn a team into a contender. nowadays its all about going to a team thats done all the work for you and just putting them over the top. I think alot of stars should def be considering Houston, Cleveland, Toronto, Washington. I think those teams are a good one or 2 players from being just like Indiana. Especially Cleveland and Toronto. But im fairly confident all the FAs flock to the same 3 teams. Nobody wants to work

Because many NBA stars don't only want to play with other superstars - they want a big city with a nighlife and potential for even more commercial earnings/success in other areas. I think underlying much of this Big Three experiment in Miami was about glamour, and becoming something more than the game on the court. And look no further than Melo, who wanted to be in NY for his wife's career.

That is what the NBA owners wanted when they insisted on cookie cutter contracts that completely eliminate market value.

When the money is just about the same no matter where you play, all that other off the court stuff becomes a deciding factor since the contracts are only a few dollars apart.

If Dan Gilbert had been allowed to pay Lebron what he was actually worth to the Cavs, he never leaves. The NBA owners didn't want that though, so they rigged the market to favor larger market teams by implementing the "max" contract scheme.

The small market owners who thought they were protecting themselves against overpaying actually signed their own death warrants because if the money is roughly equal, who wouldn't rather play in Miami/L.A/NY instead of Indiana/Cleveland?

If Gilbert had been allowed to pay a player anything he was worth, then any other owner (with even more cash from a larger market) would have been able to match or exceed that payment. NY or LA would be able to double the salary. That system wouldn't have made any difference, and any player would be able to go to the highest bidder.

It is true that "quality of life" becomes more of an issue for max players when there is a max cap. But when there is a cap, there is also a limit on the number of max players who can play in the most "desirable" cities. Some will trickle down because there won't be space in the larger markets to absorb an extra player. Plus you have some players like Durant and Love and so on who have chosen (at least so far) to max their contracts in smaller cities.

I far prefer the current CBA when it comes to some of the cap/luxury/etc. rules. That doesn't mean it's a perfect playing field. But it's better.

Indiana wouldn't do that, not because it'd "not enough" but they'd be taking on too much salary.

If they dump Granger to us, it would be for one of the 2nd rounders. Then use their cap space for CP3.

Isnt Grangers knees bad and only getting worse? Also - wont it be cheaper to get Oden if all we wont is a big with weak knees?
