The Timberwolves offered to trade Michael Beasley to the Lakers for a 1st round draft choice. The Lakers turned down the offer. The Lakers don't want to add to their luxury tax bill. The offered Luke Walton instead.

My question is this. Is Beasley better than anything we could draft at about #10?
He's 23 years old, 6'10" tall, and last year had 19.2 ppg.

Yes, he's had some problems. But I think Byron Scott could show him the way to be a professional. He fills a position of need, and can be part of the future.

Crazy idea, or crazy enough to work?

I'd give them the Hornets 2nd round pick and offer to take on the whole contract.

If the Wolves were willing to give Beasley to the Lakers for the more favorable of LA's pick or Dallas' pick, then why would the Cavs offer their pick this year? The Cavs will pick anywhere from 7-13 in my opinion. The Lakers or Dallas pick will be in the 20s. So why do you propose giving up a much higher pick in a pretty good draft for the same player?

The same player is also going to be a restricted free agent. The same player has also had problems in the past. Coach Scott is not a miracle worker with bone-headed players and does not put up with them. Look at Hickson and Samardo. You risk giving up a decent pick on a player with baggage, will be expecting money, and will have a limited body of work with the Cavs by the time of a possible extension.

I don't think Michael Beasley is the type of player that this organization would want. Not just from a professional standpoint, but again, because the Cavs will have 25 games to evaluate his worth on their team before an extension. It's part of the reason why they traded Hickson last summer.

Also, stop using Youtube videos as a mechanism for talent evaluation.

For the love of the basketball gods, no!

For a 2nd round pick yes, wouldnt give anything valuable up for him though.

3 team deal:

To :Lakers - Ramon Sessions (using TPE)
To Timberwolves - one of Lakers first round picks
To Cavs - Michael Beasley

Timberwolves get the pick they originally wanted
Lakers get the G they wanted.
Cavs get a young and talented wing (that is far better than they could pick with that pick in the draft)

If we couldn't sign Beasley to an extension, we might as well just give up.

If we resort to trading anything of value for Michael Beasley (including Sessions) then we might as well give up. If the Lakers are willing to trade a 1st for Sessions then LAL or DAL 1st >>>>>>>> Beasley. The 1st would likely be used to move up in the draft so the Cavs could secure the player they want (like Beal, Barnes, MKG, Lamb, etc.)

Beasley has been tossed around the league and teams are trying to trade him away or refusing to take him in trades. Why do you want him so badly?

Beasley is the type of player the Cavs would have no interest in. They're going for the high character type and avoiding players who have any issues or problems. Don't see any way it would happen.

If you had a veteran team with strong leaders than you might take a chance on Beasley. A developing team with young players should avoid him.

If the Lakers wouldn't use their TPE to absorb Beasley, what makes you think that they would absorb Sessions? The Lakers are heavy in the tax and absorbing Sessions would tack on another $4.42M in tax in addition to payment of Sessions' salary. So, the Lakers would be paying close to $9M for a backup PG. If Sessions is traded to the Lakers, the Cavs are going to have to take back a salary, more than likely Steve Blake.

My point about the dilemma of re-signing Beasley should the Cavs trade for him is that they would likely have to overpay to keep him long term when they wouldn't have a lot of games to evaluate him in their system. There's like 25 games left in the season after the trade deadline. So you could potentially be getting a rental of a player. It's the same situation as with Sessions. You could be left with nothing at the end of the season to show for Beasley should the Cavs trade for him and not match some overpriced contract offered by some other team.

The Cavs aren't trading for Michael Beasley. I know this because they were willing to deal Hickson last summer just in case the season was lost and risked having to overpay to keep him here based on a limited sample size of his work or lose him for nothing to free agency. It's not the question of the Cavs being able to pay Beasley enough to keep him, it just doesn't make good basketball sense or front office management to blow significant cap space over a series of years with such a limited amount of evaluation and integration.

I also think that once Beasley were to get a long term contract that he'd be one of those players who would never live up to the money and be a distraction. Once again, pass.

If he had one more year on his contract I do think the Cavs would make a move to acquire him (not using their own 1st to accomplish it). Byron Scott is a strong enough coach to bring in someone like Beasley and actually teach him how to be a professional and Beasley is the type of young player the Cavs will need to look at to fix the dearth of talent that is on this team.

Yes, but not unless he sign's an extension and Only!! if he bring's some of that High grade Bob Marley! lol

I'd much rather just trade Sessions for one of the Lakers 1st rd picks.

My initial reaction was like so many others....no! However, he's a huge improvement over Casspi, that's for sure; and can play the 3 or 4. I'm still somewhat torn with whether or not he's what we want.....but IF we wanted to make a playoff push this season, he makes us a lot better, right now.
