Wrongfully Imprisoned Man Set Free - Going to see Cavs

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We have now met the worlds largest optimist. Not only is he not mad about being wronfully locked up for 29 years, but he is a cavs fan that still believes we will win the national championship. :chuckles:

1.4 million in 29 years is less than 50k a year. Plus you have that whole prison bitch thing, meh more power to you but I will pass.

Anybody fans of the death penalty??...

:runs:

Caveat: Not saying I'm not, just something to consider.

To answer some peoples questions regarding the compensation payout:

29 states have a statute governing compensation payouts. Ohio is one of them. Under Ohio Rev. Code § 2743.48, you get $40,330 per year of incarceration, plus lost wages and attorney's fees.

So it will likely be significantly higher than 1.4 million when you consider the lost wages (which, I believe, is calculated in a largely arbitrary manner).

If you want to read the statute in full --> Go here.

How do you get wrongly convicted of a crime.

Good question.

The vividness effect of eye witness testimony coupled with DNA not being a readily available/accepted option at the time of the conviction could easily have led to wrongful convictions.

That's a shame then. Easily allowing an innocent man to spend 29 years in jail seems like a HUGE flaw in the system.

Whenever I hear someone mention the "justice" system, I laugh.
