NEW YORK -- Celtics managing partner Wyc Grousbeck didn't want to talk about the collecting bargaining negotiations he participated in Tuesday. But he had no problem anointing the Celtics as the "hands down" favorites in the Eastern Conference next season.

"I think we should be the favorites in the conference, hands down," Grousbeck said after emerging from a 3 1-2 hour bargaining session between the NBA owners and the players' union. "And we’re going to start proving that Oct. 27."

That's when the Celtics open the 2009-10 season against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. But it'll be a very different Celtics team than the one that couldn't get past Orlando in the conference semifinals. For one, Kevin Garnett will be recovered from the knee injury that caused him to miss the entire playoffs. "Just fine," Grousbeck said, when asked how KG's recovery was going.

Also, Grousbeck raved about the Celtics' big offseason acquisition -- the talented, enigmatic, and combustible Rasheed Wallace.

"I personally recruited him with five others guys," Grousbeck said. "My guys lobbied us for the signing because the players who’ve played the game for 10 years at a high level, they know who can help them and what they can do. They know the score. Rasheed was everybody’s first choice: ownership, general manager, and players. We all wanted to have him as a first choice, and we got him."

Grousbeck said he questioned Wallace about his status as the NBA's undisputed king of technical fouls and menace to officials during his 14-year career and was satisfied with 'Sheed's answers.

"He’s a feisty competitor, obviously," Grousbeck said. "We talked about that in the interview and the recruiting session. He said he means it always to try to help the team. He and his former teammates and coaches that you talk to when you do research on him, they love him as a player. Coaches love him, players love to play with him. The refs have mixed feelings, but that’s what refs are for."

Asked if he was prepared for all things Rasheed, Grousbeck said, "I actually told David (Stern) that I was going to modify my baseline ref assistance program a little bit to make up for the fact that we’ve got Rasheed. So I’m going to be doing a little less helping of the refs from the baseline. Just trying to even things out."

As for restricted free agent Glen "Big Baby" Davis, Grousbeck said the Celtics have had "a lot of conversations with him" and added, "We expect to see him in green. But things play out and you never know."

It's obvious Wyc is gonna pick his squad as favorites. The smack talking has definitely begun and all I ask for is that everyone get to the playoffs healthy .......

gotta love the off season ........

He does have a right. Never got to defend their championship like they would have liked to. Let's hope LA, BOS, SAS, ORL, AND CLE stay healthy this year heading into and throughout the playoffs.

& if we ask Ferry, he will say Cavaliers.

& if we ask Ferry, he will say Cavaliers.

Ferry seems like a guy that would be more modest though. He might say that we could win it, but I doubt he would say the "Hands down favorite", it just doesn't seem like something he'd say.

Why can't Oct. 27 get here any quicker??? I cannot wait. I'm starting to not get sleep, im so damn pumped for this season to see Shaq. At least we have the Browns for a little bit.

Does training camp start in Sept?

This just in: local parent believes his child will win the spelling bee. When asked why, he said "We'll prove it at the Bee. He's going to spell the shit out of some words, hands down."

:dunno:

I tend not to care about what foolish people think or believe. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and I would hope if I were a Celtics fan that those involved with the organization would be confident moving forward. I don't think he's right, but it's not like it's going to cause me to go Chuck Norris on my computer screen.

Douche alert.

If I was him I would shut the fuck up and get ready to get there assed whopped October 27th.

If there was a general manager in position to say this its Otis Smith(thats his name right?). Yes the won two years ago but they were almost knocked out by the Bulls and eventually lost in the second round. I currently believe that the Magic and Cavs are better then them. We both made significant changes to our teams and Boston's counter offers werent good enough.

6. The Rest

That was last season. Things change every year. No one would have picked the Nuggets or the Blazers last year to be good, no one except me of course. The east will be interesting this year. The way I see it

1Cavs
2Magic
3Celtics
4Bulls
5Sixers
6Heat
7Wizards
8Hawks

But even that Im not sold on. The Cavs will clearly win thier division over the Bulls and Detroit, sure I may be a homer, but I think that much is given. I see the Bulls being miles ahead in the race for the 4 spot though. But as far as the Celtics, Sixers, Magic, Heat, Wizards, even Hawks . . . they could flip flop and end up anywhere in the standings.

As far as the Big 3, they knew they had a small window with that group, and they became the Old 3 alot faster then they thought. Posey, Powe, Rondo, Big Baby, they havent rewarded any of them, and thats bad buisness. Its gonna take more then Sam Cassel, Marbury and Mikki Moore to save them this year. The only thing going for the Celtics is that they are in such a weak division, but if they dont win it, I could see them being the 6 or 7 seed easy.

As far as the Magic, they have a much stronger lineup then the Celtics, but they are in a much stronger division. Im almost positive they will be in the 2 spot, but this year we match up good with them.
