Yahoo: Nets moving closer to deal for Anthony

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Stein just reported that Augustine would likely end up in New Jersey too. If the Nets get Anthony then they're going to be a pretty rough team. Brook Lopez is one of the best young centers in the game and Troy Murphy is no slouch himself.

The backcourt has some serious problems though. I wouldn't trust Farmar or Augustine running my team. Morrow is a pretty good shooting guard though.

That Nets team may not make the playoffs...it will be a real test for Melo though. Taking a 17 win team...well actually worse than that because they got rid of half their team...to the playoffs? That's an uphill climb.

Will he even sign the extension there when he can just go over to New York and play with Amare next year?

I have to think the Knicks are the real winners in this trade, especially if Melo doesn't immediately sign the extension.

Looks like a deal that works well and makes sense for both the Nuggets and Nets. I'm a fan of Favors and do think he has a lot of upside but if you have a chance to get a player at the level of Carmelo and know you have a contract extension with him than you make the move. Carmelo is still fairly young and is already proven while Favors is still an unknown.
Deal also allows Denver to get some quality and begin a rebuilding process rather than losing him for nothing. Carmelo may be acting like kind of a douche but at least he informed Denver of what his plans might be allowing them to get some good assets for him---unlike another player who was on the verge of free agency this past season.

Where is Harris gonna fit on the Bobcats?

I like the deal for Denver, getting Favors means K-Mart is on his way out....AK-47 brings vet experience and a replacement (not very good) at the 3 and get future picks.

I think the Nets will be a playoff team with Melo, Lopez, and Outlaw along with Murphy and the young talent they have

This makes the LeDouche James debacle even more painful at the end of the day because Carmelo allowed Denver to get talent back. If this goes through Denver will get:

Derrick Favors (a number 3 pick)
Golden State's 2012 pick (it will be a 1 through 7)
AK 47 (a solid player that can come right in and start)

LeDouche left Cleveland with absolutely nothing. At least Anthony had the courtesy to tell Denver he simply isn't interested in playing for them. Denver has Ty Lawson as well, so I could easily see them dealing JR Smith, Billups, and Martin for salary relief and draft picks.

I assume Devin Harris would be the starting point guard for the Bobcats with Ray Felton now in New York and DJ Augustin rumored to be heading to Jersey as part of the trade.

I forgot that Felton left and i knew Augustin was getting dealt i just forgot about Felton leaving

Dam im not that much amped up for this. I rather melo in CHI,NY,Port, etc.

So NJ lineup would be roughly, DJ-williams-Melo-murphy-Lopez. With morrow, joe smith off the bench.

It looks ok. Probably a 5th seed.

NJ giving up a lot IMO though. Favors, harris and multiple picks, wow. They need a better pg and bench if this happens

Huh? You can't be serious. Melo is a proven commodity. He makes the Nets relevant. We have no idea what Favors is going to be in five years. But the chances of him being equal or better than what Melo is right now are not high.

With that said, screw LeBron for leaving us high and dry. This trade is just a reminder of the kind of talent we could have got back.

Yea Melo is a star player but they have no chance at winning, IMO, and the shot at prducing a young and formidable frontline with Lopez and Favors is something I wouldn't deal to get anybody not named Lefuckface and Dwight Howard.

Carmelo Anthony's future with the Nets isn't much better if at all than it would be with the Nuggets.

Oh boy...this move basically makes NJ a playoff contender. Congrats.

If Carmelo Anthony is aspiring to be the 5th seed (which I dont think the Nets would be) he might as well stay in Denver.

Wow. Just saw this. I think the Nets would be fucking dumb to trade Derrick Favors. But it is there choice. I wonder what NY Knicks fans are saying. I bet they are shitting there pants right now because of this. But good job for the Nets if this deal gets done. Man, the East has gotten stronger. Anyways, the Nets are desperate to get Anthony, but it is there choice.
