HANG TIME HEADQUARTERS — Yao Ming‘s season is done.
Again.
Done in by yet another stress fracture in his left foot, this time in his ankle (the one he injured Nov. 10):
An MRI performed today on Rockets center Yao Ming revealed a stress fracture of the Medial Malleolus in his left ankle. The fracture, which is related to his previous injury of the Tarsal Navicular bone, presented itself during the course of his current rehabilitation program. There is no timetable for his return at this time.
The team will have no additional comment at this time. Information regarding his treatment program will be made available at a later date.
The Rockets don’t need to say what we already know.
Yao said it in the summer, when he was trying to come back from the stress fracture that cost him last season. He said he would consider retirement if he had been unable to stay healthy.
We don’t like where this is headed. But you do the math. Yao has played in five games the past two seasons and now he has to miss another one.
Might this be the end of the road for the No. 1 pick of the 2002 NBA draft and one of the most unique talents in the history of the game?
Only time will tell.
