HANG TIME HEADQUARTERS — Yao Ming‘s season is done.
Again.
Done in by yet another stress fracture in his left foot, this time in his ankle (the one he injured Nov. 10):
An MRI performed today on Rockets center Yao Ming revealed a stress fracture of the Medial Malleolus in his left ankle. The fracture, which is related to his previous injury of the Tarsal Navicular bone, presented itself during the course of his current rehabilitation program. There is no timetable for his return at this time.
The team will have no additional comment at this time. Information regarding his treatment program will be made available at a later date.
The Rockets don’t need to say what we already know.
Yao said it in the summer, when he was trying to come back from the stress fracture that cost him last season. He said he would consider retirement if he had been unable to stay healthy.
We don’t like where this is headed. But you do the math. Yao has played in five games the past two seasons and now he has to miss another one.
Might this be the end of the road for the No. 1 pick of the 2002 NBA draft and one of the most unique talents in the history of the game?
Only time will tell.

Man, why couldn't this be LeBron ?? Would love to see him get a couple stress fractures and suffer some more brain damage....

Why Lord, why ?

Yao brought a lot to this game when he first entered and worked hard to become a true center in the sense.

I think we all know Yao is officially done but he certainly burned a bright international spotlight on the NBA and for that he should be commended. It's unfortunate for people like myself who enjoy a center based offense.

I feel bad for the guy. He's a great player but his body is just too big for his own good.

It's expected at his age for a player his size. Their bodies just deteriorate after a while. It's a shame, I would have loved to see him play a few more seasons especially with the team he has now. Yao, Brooks, Scola, Martin and Battier is a sick starting lineup with threats from every position on the floor.

I wonder if the chinese have a musical equivalent for "taps"?

Yao was a good player, but maybe this shows that procedure wasn't a 100% success rate. It worked for Z just fine, but now we know there's risks.

And you never know. Yao may eventually find his way back before getting too old and get some game back. But being 300 pounds and 7 feet and 5/6 inches doesn't help...

Time to quit while you still have the ability to walk. Yao's got a kid now, some things are just way more important than basketball.

It's a different injury, has nothing to do with the procedure on the foot. All it proves is that Yao's legs simply cant handle his massive frame and height and it's time to move on from the profession that requires constant movement on those feet, ankles and knees.

Sadly. I did enjoy his game.
