Your 2018 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Tough news about Miller.

He’s probably gone, but I wonder if perhaps (assuming he returns to health) his price tag will come down to a more realistic level for the Indians.

Indians have some work to do in the next 3 days...be nice to get another serviceable arm...our bullpen is shaky as it is...this is a huge blow

Including playoffs, we got 140 IP out of Andrew Miller, with a good chunk of it with him pitching at less than 100%

2016 was magical, no doubt. I don't regret making the trade at all, but I've never thought we got a good deal either.
Indians brass obviously was thinking championship or bust. Miller was on a team that led 3-1 in the WS, it was certainly a good deal if they finished. I still say good deal though because it was a hell of an ride and it might be crazy to say but Clint Frazier and Sheffield may never see a big spot in the World Series. Win or lose, which we lost, but that was the most memorable WS for me and we wouldn't have been there without Miller.

I'd do that very trade again and again

What’s an external impingement? Is it some sort of calcification?

This sucks

They were at bat in the bottom of the 9th in game seven with the top of the order up.
That’s not on Andrew Miller.
Unfortunately that series was lost in game 5 (up 3-1) and that 1/2 inning. Obviously my opinion.
You make that Miller trade 10/10 times without hesitation.

Rivera was obviously the better reliever, but Hoffman is the only other person (and the first) to record 600 career saves. Still nothing to sneeze at.
I’ll sneeze at it all day. Saves don’t mean a thing to me.

He was a good to very good reliever over an extended period of time. I just don’t put him anywhere close to the upper echelon.

He’s done for the year??

The stats on Miller here just confirm the eye test:

Indians Place Andrew Miller On 10-Day DL
By Jeff Todd | August 29, 2018 at 1:55pm CDT

The Indians have placed lefty reliever Andrew Miller on the 10-day disabled list with an external impingement in his left shoulder. Fellow southpaw Tyler Olson was recalled to take the open roster spot.

Details on Miller’s outlook are not yet known, but it’s obviously concerning to see the 33-year-old hitting the shelf yet again. He has already missed time this year, owing to hamstring and knee issues, and has not been quite himself when he has been available.

Through 24 innings on the season, Miller carries a 3.38 ERA with 12.4 K/9 and 4.9 BB/9. Those are still productive numbers, needless to say, but they’re a far cry from the dominant levels at which Miller has performed in recent years. He is still tough to square up, but now owns a 1.292 WHIP in 2018 after averaging a minuscule 0.789 figure since the start of the 2014 season.

There are other less-than-encouraging signs as well. Miller’s 12.4% swinging-strike rate is his lowest level since he first became a full-time reliever in 2012. His average fastball is down to 93.2 mph; it had registered at 95.4 (2016) and 94.5 (2017) in the prior two campaigns.

The DL placement may just be an opportunity to get Miller some added rest, to be fair. It isn’t as if the Indians are desperate to squeeze out wins down the stretch; they’ll understandably be prioritizing his readiness for the postseason. Still, it’s not exactly promising that the move was deemed necessary, particularly given the general struggles exhibited this season by the Cleveland relief corps.

Not feeling great about this team's pitching right now. Just so many guys either hurt and/or not having as great of a season as they typically do.

Don’t have a choice but to ride out Cody Allen and let him work thru this. Just have to hope he catches lightning in a bottle at the end of the season. These games right now, although demoralizing when he blows it, are meaningless.

I mean, if we don’t ride it out , here’s our other options:

Neil Ramirez
Oliver Perez
Josh Tomlin
Tyler Olson
Dan Otero
Adam Cimber

Yikes

We don’t have a single RHP in the pen that can keep the ball in the yard.

Time is ticking; but they have Kluber and Carasco. Baurer should be back and he’s pissed. Bieber’s 4.
Allen needs to figure shit out. He still can. The Padres guys will have to eat late innings.
Miller will be situational at best.
Hope you starters get deep into the game.
