Best line up right now is Gibson, Sasha, Lebron Gooden and Z. They compliment each other and will be hard to defend, especially with more time playing together. Hughs should come off the bench.

Nah, Sasha's defense has been improving, but I don't think you want him trying to guard SGs. Sasha's curse is to be a SF on a team with LeBron.

You need Hughes for D. Can you imagine trying to guard Arenas or Wade with Gibson or Pavs? Ouch. As for his offense it'll come around, especially if we keep playing uptempo. And if we do, there'll be more minutes for everyone.

The problem is that Hughes' defense is not good enough to overcome for his current offensive deficiencies.

Hughes gets beat to the basket on crossover moves and simply speed quite often lately and he's not fighting through screens. Additionally, for whatever reason, he does not get any foul calls to go his way. He could be murdered underneath the rim but he doesn't get calls and is unable to finish around the rim.

Sasha however is known for having these type of nights and following up with a 1-7 night with 5 fouls in 20 minutes. I hope this doesn't happen but the onus is on Sasha to show some consistency and on Mike Brown to give him a fair chance.

Gibson is a nice change of pace though he did make some mistakes in driving to the basket but at least other defenses have to respect him.

Re: Your Daniel Gibson assement

Healthy, Hughs is their second best player and really is Lebron's Pippen/Robin. But he looks far from healthy right now. I say put him on the bench with Snow so he can heal. Sasha deserves the same chance to show consistent production as Gibson. If he can do that then he has the physical tools to be better than Hughs. Bigger, stronger better shooter. But like Gibson, with no opportunity we will never know. Defensively both have improved alot and should continue to improve with more PT as they certainly have the physical ability.

Re: Your Daniel Gibson assement

The guys Larry has to cover beat everyone off the dribble 1on1, David Stern made sure of that, but at least Hughes has experience to lean on.

Larry's offense will be back. He rattled off 6 games in a row with 13+ points and 17PPG just a couple of games ago.

As I said, Sasha's problem is that he's a SF on a team with LeBron. He's not a shooting guard. There are times when certain matchups will allow him to play SG. There are also teams that are better suited for Sasha. For instance, teams without a clue how to play D like Golden State. Everyone else in the league knows that when Sasha attacks the hoop, you either step out and take the charge, or you go up and block it because he never changes direction and doesn't hide the ball when dunking.

He does a fill a niche on the team, but that niche isn't necessarily going to lead to consistent minutes. At 6'7" he does give us more height and athleticism then guys like Wesley, Jones, or Gibson.

JonfromVa's opinions pretty much mirror mine. I think Gibson pushed the pace like we need to see happen ...so we can flatten out the Defense off misses and get more easy baskets.

Just getting the ball down the court one second sooner can make a huge difference in how you ultimatley can attack a defense with success.

But, we must take this with some perspective ...we played an uninspired Golden State team that is one of the worst road teams in the league ...thrid worst to be exact. So, the road will get tougher very soon, and we'll get a proper gage on just what things DG needs to improve upon and becme more consistent with.

As for Pavlovic ...he's always shown great upsode potential, but, much like Gooden can turn downwardas fast as he can turn in a positive direction. Have always said I'd like to see him in an up tempo game, and getting consistent minutes ..but, I never have thought that this organization ever would give him that opportunity.

Someday, if we don;t keep him, he will go to some team like Phoenix and turn into something very good in this league.

As for the team's play without Lebron ...we see, again, much improved ball movement and offensive execution with Lebron out of the lineup. Not saying it's a LEBRON issue ...but rather, I believe, a team that subconsciously becomes over reliant on Lebron James greatness ....they need to move and be as active WITH Lebron, as without him ...

Also, Lebron should take note that he needs to stop monopolizing the time with the ball, and keep the pace of our halfcourt game crisp and inclusive of all five players.

A white guy can finish better than a black guy, that shows how bad Larry is.

Sasha is a better player than Larry, no question about it.

:chuckles: :chuckles: :chuckles:

the problem is you dont want the 13 million dollar bum collecting his check from the bench

Based on what?

Last I checked, those 5 haven't played ANY SIGNIFICANT MINUTES TOGETHER.

Hughes should not come off the bench - period. While he is struggling, this style of pushing the ball up the floor is only going to elevate his game. Hughes is a superior all-around player who (I know it's easy to forget) at least has a track record of being a solid NBA starter for years. Sasha drops 24 on one night and all of the sudden Hughes is expendable? It was the worst defensive team in the league last night.

Maybe I'll be completely wrong, but with Gibson pushing the ball and LeBron coming back, Hughes' game is going to elevate to the level we all expected. I watched the game last night and went back and re-watched the 1st quarter. Hughes was playing the role of LeBron in that when he wasn't being double-teamed, the defense was slanted towards him to prevent his penetration.

I doubt it's going to happen, but I'm hoping that the ball movement will still be there when LeBron comes back. However, I'm betting LeBron is going to control the ball and pound the crap out of it until the clock is inside 10. We'll just have to wait and see.

Who said Hughs is expendable? He is playing like he needs more time for his leg or whatever to get better. Why not get him a little rest and see what Sasha can do with Gibson and the other starters? Danny has some decisions coming up at the trade deadline and that will help as well. I do, however, see the point that Sasha may be more of a SF and that they don't need to find out more about him as with Gibson.

Yeah, I can't believe how carried away with Sasha you guys are getting, it's laughable. I love the guy, but he's a SF, and it's not like this 1 game is going to make him a mainstay in the rotation. He should be Lebron's backup for like 8 MPG, Lebron's situational spot-starter, and should get some of Larry's minutes while his ankle continues to heal. But he's not going to be a longterm starting SG over Larry, for the reasons Jon mentioned. He can do it short-term, he had that good streak filling in for Larry last year, but we do need Larry's defense. Larry's "attack mode" will come back gradually as his ankle continues to heal.

As far as Gibson goes, we're on the right track, big time. So now another immediate question is, which bench spot will Snow come off in? Mike Brown will have to do something he hates doing, messing with a veterans' minutes, either Snow's, Marshall's/Jones'. Snow should still be getting big minutes, continuing his role of guarding the other team's best small (except the fastest ones). I thought Brown might use him as 1st man off the bench, displacing the Marshall/Jones dead horse tandem. (EDIT- made a new thread for the rotations)

I think Gibson did a great job....while as everyone has stated we need to be careful with our thoughts because this was ONLY Golden State...

well there is not a Point Guard in the NBA who is stronger than Baron Davis....The Rook did a decent job on him overall....Baron made some tough jumpers and Larry guarded him as well but overall Gibson didnt get killed by him which was worried abotu because Baron is such a strong dude for a PG

tough test for Gibson personally because he doesnt match up very well with Baron....What we need to do is keep moving the bal up the court and if we are in half court game move our boies along with the ball

Gibson...Sasha...LeBron...Andy...Zydrunas.... that lineup is looking kind of nasty right now....not saying Hughes needs to go to the bench but this lineup would really clear some space for LeBron if the young guys can stay consistant

ps something being overlookd is Andy's play over the last month...he has really stepped it up and I dont know where this team would be without him

Boobie definitely looked good - hit his outside shots, didn't force anything, and most importantly he didn't look overwhelmed in his first start at PG. That being said, I agree with others who said it's only G.S. I'm looking forward to seeing how he can run things against a better defensive team.

As far as Sasha goes, I agree he is definitely not a 2. And the problem is that he is a 3 on a team with LeBron. But I think Mike Brown can get LeBron some more rest by giving Sasha more consistent minutes. Andhe can get creative with some lineups depending on the opposition and get them both out there together. This team can be a lot more athletic than they have shown in the past by simply getting Gibson and Sasha in there more. I think everyone agrees that the offense will look much better with a more up-tempo style. Hopefully last night was the first step in this direction.
