I'm checking to see what everyone's off season priorities are for this off season.

What do you think we need to make the Cavs better (on the floor that is)and in what order would you prioritize thier needs?

To me the most important thing I think the Cavs need is a point guard.
When McInnis played well for the Cavs the Cavs were a playoff team(not world beaters but a playoff team) and when McInnis played poorly the Cavs went down the drain.
The PG touches the ball more then anyone on the court and runs the team, distributes the ball trying to keep his teammates happy, and has to keep the defense honest by knocking down open shots.

After that I'm kind of torn for thier next need.
A good perimeter shooter/scorer or a great interior defender.
A shooter opens the floor offensively and a good interior defender is the core of a good defensive team.
Since I believe the best teams have to have very good defenses I guess I would have to take a big man defender over a good scoring threat.
I also believe it is much easier to acquire extra shooting and scoring(especially from the wings) then it is to acquire good big men who play good defense.

So to me it's PG,Interior defender, and then SG and I actually believe the Cavs will have the cap room to acquire all 3 if they don't resign Ilgauskas.

I'm sure there are people who will disagree with the way I see the Cavs needs so tell me what you think and why. :chuckles:

I don't view this as a thread to argue, so I won't be bashing your lame-brain ideas in this thread... :chuckles:

priorities

should be done already: get a damn gm, get the damn press conference done for mike brown..
First thing to do is get into the damn draft. Draft point.
2nd- over pay for a SG, preferably redd, or joe johnson for me.
3rd- Resign Z, or depending on how much gilbert hates Z, sign and trade for stud defensive center, good luck finding one gilbert.
4th- get some damned bench! jackson coming back should help, but adding a stud bench player will help this team a lot.

Those are my top 4

1) Get a good coach
2) Get a good GM (no Larry Brown or atleast hire somebody along with him who can control his short term tendencies)

3) Center needs to be resolved first: Resign Z to a reasonable contract. I do not like any of the other possibilites. The centers I would be most interested are all restricted and don't deserve the sort of contracts which could pry them from their respective teams
4) Backcourt Scoring: Throw down a max contract to JJ and pray
5) Backcourt Defense: see above. although if sasha stays I think he can become an outstanding defender
6) PG: either trade Gooden/Sasha for a lotter pick or play it safer and sign Damon Stoudemire. He'll be a good complement to the more defensive minded Snow

Why is the 1st thing you have to do is come out and be an idiot.

I'm entitled to my views whether you like them or not.

Unless you're getting paid for an opinion you have no right to proclaim how good or bad someone elses ideas are.

You can disagree but that doesn't make you right!

I think I'm right, you think you're right and I can live with that but you don't have to be a prick about it!

I know we need a GM and a Coach 1st but I said "What do you think we need to make the Cavs better (on the floor that is)and in what order would you prioritize thier needs?"

That means outside of coach and GM what would you do.

I think a coach is the most needed thing on the court too. Lets face it, the Cavs underacheived. Given what they had at the break and even with a tougher schedule, they should have at least made the playoffs. No one expected them to hold off the Pistons for the second seed, but they totally blew it, shouldn't have even come down to the wire. The reason, well, one of several, is because Silas became ineffective for whatever reasons and Malone never got any respect. That and the Cavs did not have a half court offense to speak of. They had all the right players to make a bit of a playoff run, but without a clue in the half court sets on both sides of the ball, the only way to win games was with athleticism and mistakes by the opposing team.

you stick a real coach or offense and defensive plan with last year's lineup and give everyone their role, and you have a MUCH better team with the same players. Instead, you got LeBron rightfully, but ineffectively, trying to carry the team on his shoulders, J-Mac throwing fits, and a bunch of guys playing without any confidence focusing on not screwing up so they dont get yanked.

Oh and make sure Dasanga Diop does not play one meaningful minute of basketball. I guess he is a nice closer though, sure sign that the game is over

1 Coach
2 President
3 GM
4 Z (decide yes or no)
5 SG (too many top players to make last priority)
6 PG (we could trade for one, draft one, or sign one. They will all be there)

JOE JOHNSON

1 : Coach / GM / President
2 : See whether we can get in the draft to attack pg
3 : Resign Z if figure is respectable
4 : Look at Joe Johnson's chances of being matched.
5 : Sign SG
6 : Look at moving wingmen if not already traded for bench big man.
7 : Take up Traylor's option.
8 : Buyout Harris's option.

Im sorry but trying to get a point guard in the draft is not higher than getting a SG. We are not going to get into the top ten so.......

The top three point guards (DWilliams, C Paul, RFelton) will get taken in the top seven picks. Jarrett Jack would be ok but not more important than getting a stud SG.

Personally I would rather sign Antonio Daniels.

Getting in the draft to get a point guard is a higher priority than getting a shooting guard because the draft takes place before free agency starts.

how does the fact that the draft happens before free agency period make getting a point guard more of a priority? Nothing is set in stone as to how we obtain another point guard. Getting Joe Johnson is a much bigger priority to this team than getting a pg. We atleast have somebody on our roster worthy of starting pg minutes, while we have nbdl calibur perimeter players outside of bron.

Looking at getting into the draft is a priority over the shooting guard because it happens first. We cant exactly sign a shooting guard then look into the draft that has already happened. If you cluey enough you would have recognised that.

Its not set in stone that we are getting our point guard via draft pick. We dont even have a draft pick so it has to be assumed we do it through free agency. If you were cluey enough, maybe you would have figured that out.

Hense why I wrote

2 : See whether we can get in the draft to attack pg

Nothing set in stone in that statement. That to me says, "see if it is possible"!
