Just heard on Triv that the ball Z scored his 10,000th point, I believe it was on Mar 21st, was snuck out of the q that night. Apparently, the ball was tossed into the stands. The Cavs told the Quicken Loans Arena to no let that ball leave the stadium. According to Triv, the person who got the ball was successful in sneaking it out of the arena.

Steal spoils statistical milestone for Cleveland Cavalier Zydrunas Ilgauskas: Tipoff

A message to the "fan" who stole a ball from "Z" at The Q at a recent game: Bring it back, ASAP.

Seriously, stealing from a 7-foot-3, 260-pound guy with this many rabid fans? You're lucky you're not already DOA.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas, the stalwart center of the best Cavaliers team in franchise history, achieved a career milestone in the Cavs' victory March 21 against the Atlanta Hawks. He became only the fourth Cavalier to score 10,000 points.

But Z's trophy case will not contain the historic ball. It ended up going into the stands as the buzzer sounded to end the game and, presumably, was smuggled out of The Q. An APB went out, security was alerted to watch the exits, but the ball wasn't spotted. As one wag at The Q said, "Someone who entered nonpregnant left very much pregnant."

That 22-ounce, 29.5-inch bouncing baby ball belonged to someone else.

Meanwhile, the next day, Z set the Cavs record for blocked shots in a win over the Nets in New Jersey. Understandably, his first quote to Plain Dealer reporter Mary Schmitt Boyer was, "I'm trying to get the game ball." Luckily, that one was secured by the Cavs equipment manager, who shoved it into a duffel bag.

Which is exactly where the ball thief belongs.

In case anyone cares, Delonte is the one that chucked it into the stands. The equip manager, Cobra, wanted to kill him. :chuckles: Delonte actually felt pretty bad about it after he realized what he did.

Re: Z and scoring 10,000th Point

Thats pretty retarded that a fan would steal the ball like that.

Re: Z and scoring 10,000th Point

Well he probably didn't know unless they made some of announcement to the crowd. Hopefully they'll bring it back and get something back in return

Re: Z and scoring 10,000th Point

the game wasnt even close why the hell did west throw the ball into the stands?

Re: Z and scoring 10,000th Point

Hilarious...

Re: Z and scoring 10,000th Point

Heard this on NPR today on the way back from the gym. The story is blowing up.

Re: Z and scoring 10,000th Point

I feel bad for Z, but this is a funny story. In the end, no ball or more correctly missing ball will erase what Z has meant to this franchise and what he mans to this team.

On another note, maybe Z can get in touch with Lance Armstrong...Lance has learned how to win multiple championships while missing a ball, love to see Z learn the same thing. :chuckles:

Re: Z and scoring 10,000th Point

Check out Z's reaction to all of this. He's always got his priorities straight.

WOIO Ch. 19 tried to stir things up by asking players what they had to say to whoever took the ball with which Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored his 10,000th point on Saturday against Atlanta. The Plain Dealer's Mike McIntyre reported in his Tipoff column on Monday morning that the ball was thrown into the stands at the end of the game and has not been returned.

Ilgauskas wouldn't play ball with WOIO, though. In his inimitable style, he said he didn't have anything to say to whoever took the ball.

"Maybe there are some poor kids playing with it right now," he said with a shrug. "Maybe they need it more. Then keep it."

Of course, Ilgauskas did admit he'd like the ball back and was willing to make a deal.

"If somebody would bring it back, I could sign my jersey or trade something," he said and then joked, "I could ask LeBron [James] to sign something."

Tomorrow there's going to be 120 kids with basketballs down at the Q claiming they have the ball. :chuckles:

Re: Z and scoring 10,000th Point

So, a little kid did have (and still has) the ball, with Z's blessing. Kudos to Z.

Cavaliers Insider: Case of the missing historic basketball solved

A young excited fan, not a greedy one, possesed the game ball from the game in which Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored his 10,000th point. An understanding Ilgauskas told the fan to keep the ball.

The Case of the Missing Ball has a feel-good ending, after all.

After The Plain Dealer reported Monday that the ball Zydrunas Ilgauskas used to score his 10,000th career point March 21 was MIA because of a greedy fan, media and Cavaliers supporters unleashed full-court pressure to force the culprit to cough up the ball.

A young boy's mother called the Cavaliers on Tuesday and explained that her son had taken the ball simply because he was excited when it somehow landed in his lap after the game.

Ilgauskas merely told the boy, whom he said was 7 or 8 years old, to keep the ball.

"Knowing all the circumstances, I felt bad for him," the 7-3 center said. "He took some uncalled beating for it in the last couple days. For me, it was always about the journey, not the ball. So now I want him to have a piece of it. I don't really need the ball anyway."

Ilgauskas, who also became the Cavaliers' all-time block leader March 22 when he passed John "Hot Rod" Williams' 1,200 blocks, said he didn't have a spot in his trophy case reserved for the ball, anyhow.

"It's not a record-breaking ball or anything like that," he said. "I did what I had to do, you can't take that way from me. I'll always have that. It'll make one person happy, so that's all that matters."

Told that Tuesday night's game against Detroit was his 700th career game as a Cavalier -- which ranks third behind Bingo Smith (720) and Danny Ferry (723) -- Ilgauskas offered a prediction.

"I'm going to get that game ball now, for sure," he said.

Z is such a saint. I don't think I would have been so selfless as to let the kid have the ball. God bless him.

I just figured that LeBron didn't agree to sign anything for the kid. :chuckles:

Way to go, big Z.

Re: Z and scoring 10,000th Point

Z is the man. That is cool. He should have signed the ball and had a beer with that kid.
