what do u guys think about this?

according to the plain dealer, z has told coach that he's capable of knocking down the long ball, but coach doesn't think it's a good idea for him to actually do it on the regular.

i'm saying, WHY THE HELL NOT????
he'll always get open looks, and we know how great a shooter Z is.

what do u guys think?

I still think back to that 3 he buried against the Suns a few years ago to win the game or put it into OT. Classic stuff right there. With that said I am against anything that takes Z's tall ass away from being near the hoop. His long arms and tip drills are far more important than him shooting flat footed 3's.

because he needs to be under the hoop to clean up after Sasha and Larry. Boards and putbacks are more valuable than three points every three shots -- and no second chance after the misses.

No...he's too slow to cover the ground he needs to be one of our key rebounders and get those put-backs we all know and love. Do not start getting cute.

We do need him for offensive rebounding, however with all the high pick and pop stuff we run, he might as well try a 3 than a long 2. If he could shoot 33% on 3's it'd do a lot more for the team than shooting (checks stat) 37% on jumpers like he's doing now. It'd spread the floor more and score more points.

Does he get many offensive boards on the pick and pop plays? Or does he just end up out of the play when he's not shooting?

Something to watch ...

Shoot 3s? Shouldn't he be formulating some kind of a deadly post move?

While I have no doubt in my mind that he would be a better outside shooter than either of our starting guards, Z needs to play on the blocks for the reasons already mentioned, reason number one being offensive rebounding. It's good for your big man to spread the floor from time to time to open up the lane for our slashers, but this can't be done too often or you're left without your best offensive rebounder crashing the boards.

I think Z stopped practicing those when he realized the only guy on the roster who passes him the ball in a decent position is LeBron. His offensive arsenal helped him get onto two All Star rosters before Brown showed up. The way Z has changed his game for the good of the overall team in the past two years must boggle Larry Hughes's mind.

I have always been in Mike Brown's corner and I don't think he should lose his job anytime soon, but his mis-management of Z's abilities frustrates me to no end.

Imagine if you are Z: You went to the draft combine as a point guard, so you have the skills to sneak onto the perimeter. You know you can shoot from the outside at a better rate than both Hughes and Pavlovic. You have been around the game long enough to know a handful of plays that can create mismatches for others, especially since you have a team of rebounders at different positions and you also know that even Popovich can make lead-footed Robert Horry work in this offense... yet you have been told to impersonate Mark Eaton in nearly every single set as crappy shooters chuck away.

This is the main reason I keep my mind open when it comes to Andre Miller. Miller could make LeBron and Z so much better.

Well said Randolph. Look I dont see this as a play that will be called too often. All of a sudden we wont see Z put up 5 long ball attempts per game, so I dont think we are gonna miss his offensive rebounding on too many plays. This is just Z wanting to utilise his skillset to help this team. He shoots many 20 footers anyways, so it is just one steo or so back on the base line.

I can just imagine it though......Z has been burying trey after trey, the opposition charges out on him, he pump fakes, drives inside, the help defense comes over and forces him under the hoop, but bam the reverse jam.

I am all for the Z3.

Some say we need him to rebound, but his man should be drawn out to disrupt the shot.

I would much rather Z shoot from deep than larry or sasha. Make them get underneath and fight for boards and earn their checks....they both should have a size advantage over the man guarding them.

me too.

WHY THE HELL NOT????

I don't know what the best way is to answer this question than, I don't know.. I know Z can shoot a three pointer, but I don't wanna see Z always trying to set up for a three point shot. All of our bigs can shoot, even Andy. I just don't wanna see Z pulling up all the time from downtown, but it can't hurt a few times.. Not like our offense is gonna do anything else good.

I don't think he's asking to throw up 5 a game...he just wants the green light to shoot one from time to time if the opportunity presents itself. Z has won his fair share of post-practice 3pt shooting contests over the years. I'm torn on the idea. If we had other weapons out there besides Lebron I'd be all for him camping out on the weakside wing....but we don't. I bet he'd shoot 35% if given the chance.

I'm not against it, I'm just saying this as that is Mike Brown's viewpoint. I would love to see the big fellow throw up one three pointer here and there. But I'm not the coach. :-\

I suppose I'd be alright if he shot the occasional three but don't get comfortable out there. If there's one thing Z has shown this year it's that he's been struggling with guys in his face on his jumpers. He has to have some time to set himself to consistently make his jumpers. Obviously he would get that on the perimeter but once he started making some defenders wouldn't give him as much slack. So, I'm fine with the idea but don't make it a big part of the offense.
