2017 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Still early but...

Lorenzo Cain being on the rental market at the deadline this year sounds so tempting...no way the Royals send him our way though.

I guess people in the know have Zimmer up after All-Star as they say he is ready to impact the team. I would love Cain but yeah with Zimmer coming and him being a rental would really be stupid to harm our farm for a rental when we have a possible star player coming soon. KC would try to gut us for him, So I agree.

Yeah that's a good point. I just don't want to rush Zimmer up too quickly. However, for the role he would likely have...he won't have much pressure to perform immediately. He should be ready for it.

Yeah that is just it and a lot of fans want him up now and heck no to that, Bring up After the break and see how he does. He has great speed and a really solid swing that is getting better so he will be a main stay next year assuming he lives up to his potential. Also our team has the depth in the outfield and hitting. Even Francona said no matter what element you take away we will find away to replace it, not in those words. I would assume Francona knows he will have to get creative to replace Raja and his speed. Zimmer is so close I agree bring him in as late as possible though.

2 way street.

No way the Indians trade the capital to get a pending free agent in the winter. Look at the major trades this front office has made recently to try to get better. Ubaldo, Miller, Guyer, and even the Lucroy deal, even though it was shut down by the player...all had at least another season of control left on their deals at the time of the trade, and weren't pending free agents.

Those are the guys people should be thinking of, when looking at potential trade targets...guys with at least another season of control left...

Exactly. Speaking of Rajai, if Zimmer doesn't seem ready at that point and Oakland is out of it (likely) bring Rajai back for the stretch run (if he is actually hitting).

Just thinking out loud on my part. Definitely would not be smart to deal for a rental. I am honestly not even expecting anything too big this year; just some small pieces added.

I could get behind this, this might be a sneaky plan both teams had. However with Austin Jackson on trial that would be a solid back up plan. It is nice wishful thinking though and sparks good conversation. Raja and Cain would love to add either as they have heart and the will and speed. In the MLB though I am not sure of fact on the rules of trading however to trade for Davis back I assume would be a legit trade.

Just my opinion...but I think they add another reliever at the deadline.

This team is going to have 0 problems scoring runs as they are put together right now. Position players will only come on my radar if Brantley is down for the year again, which I don't think will be the case, or a key player gets seriously hurt, which I pray doesn't happen...

But looking into an available really good RH reliever (think someone like Brad Brach, David Phelps...guys who are really good, but aren't closers, and have another year left on their deal on teams that could look to sell) makes a lot of sense to me. Not sure Otero can replicate his season last year, Shaw most likely walks this winter, and as we saw in the postseason, you can never have enough quality relief pitching.

Think that would be a really good move not only for this season, but for when our window is still open next year as well, and we most likely lose one of our workhorses out of the bullpen.

Jackson has an opt out in his clause so he can leave the organization if they decide to keep him in the minors. So unless he starts the season on the 25 man roster, it is likely he could end up elsewhere.

Personally I feel if we make a move this season it will be for an older veteran that wouldn't cost a high prospect and is a rental (aka what we did for Coco Crisp this season). Rajai Davis actually is a legit target in a trade especially if Oakland is out of the playoffs, they just offered him the most money hence why he signed there.

Now if one of our main guys goes down/guys like Gonzalez, Almonte stink it up, we will make a more significant trade. My guess is we really won't know their targets until may time period for the trade deadline.

Shaw is the only one who can walk after this season,.It is the 2019 season that we really have to fix up our bullpen since Allen, Miller, Logan, McAllister will all be free agents. I don't see it as a need, but if an upgrade with a few years of control comes available at a good price I would take it. Armstrong has looked solid this spring, so I think he is leading that last spot.

The question is what are you willing to give up for the Reliever you are thinking about? Part of me says they don't want to part with anymore top prospects this season if they can help it.

Uhhh...I know that...notice how I only mention Shaw can walk this next winter...

But losing him will be a big blow. Guy racks up innings and appearances for us...why I wouldn't mind fishing for his replacement through trade this season rather than through signing one in the winter.

I did notice, and yeah he would be even though it seems he isn't as well liked as he should be by the Cleveland fans. I just feel we need someone with a few years of control and not just 17 and 18 since the bullpen will be gone completely. Just hard to find a guy with years of control at a reasonable price unless we just go for 17-18 and hopefully we can sign/trade for guys in 19.

Windows.

Our window is wide open this year, and in 2018. After that, I think we go through a mini-rebuild for a year.

Give me the sure thing for 2018 while our window is open, not a what if with more team control...focus on that after 2018...

Also, I'm not giving up the prospects it would take to get a "really good RH reliever" who has years of team control left...

Guy with one year left can be had for much cheaper, and can help a team not only this season, but in 2018 when this team is looking to replace 75 appearances and 70 IP coming out of the bullpen...

Not worth paying for one of those if we are going through a mini-rebuild, IMO...so trade for 1 with 1 year of team control left which falls right in line with our current window.

Shame.

Solid rookie showing, then tried to boost his velocity in the winter, did just that but threw off his mechanics in the process, fought his mechanics all last season and probably overcompensated with his elbow most of the year to try to make pitches less flat and get them down, has cleanup surgery in his elbow in the fall, and now is getting TJ.

Hopefully this allows him to reboot his mechanics, and find the success he had in 2015 again.
