2017 MLB Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So you're telling me if he had a hot postseason he still would get payed like the rumor has it?

I call bullshit on that.

Yeah...

Encarnacion had a good postseason, and he got paid 40+ million less guaranteed than expected.

The market wasn't dictated by postseason success. It was dictated by teams not wanting to pay corner bats, and the big spenders staying out of that market preparing for the next 2 free agency periods. Had nothing to do with a "hot postseason", everything to do with what teams were doing with similar players, and what teams were involved.

Literally all every baseball writer has been talking about is how bad the market was for hitters this winter for the last few months...but I guess I'm talking out of my ass...

I just have to assume Napoli would garner a multi year contract if he had a rich postseason. I'm not saying you're talking out of your ass.

There has to be list of players that got payed after a hot postseason. I'm just saying Napoli didn't help his demands one bit when the stage was bright. If he somehow willed the Indians to a WS win by power, it'll be "Pay Da Man" all over him.

Trumbo led the league in HRs, is 4 years younger, and had to settle for $37.5 million over 3 years after talking about $100 million+ early on.

I'm sure the poor postseason didn't help matters, but given how things shook out, I doubt Napoli could have gotten multiple years anywhere. Best he could have done is maybe another few million on his 1 year deal.

There simply weren't enough suitors for 1B/DH this year given how many were available.

He got the same deal that has been rumored since the season ended that the Indians wanted to give him. A 1 year deal.

He got what the Indians front office, who know the market better than you and I, expected him to get.

Again, it had nothing to do with postseason success or failure, everything to do with the poor market for him and players like him.

Trumbo, Encarnacion, Bautista...everyone got paid significantly less than expected...

Shit, the leader in HRs in the NL can't even get an offer over 3 million per year right now...

Well I guess it's a good thing theses players aren't getting overpayed. That's always a good thing in sports because they're overpaid as it is.

I'd say complete steal by the Yanks then.

Job well done.

Carter may go below .200 in that stadium, but if he gets the ABs he'll hit 40 bombs.

Mike Ilitch, the Tigers owner, passed away today.

Dude tried his damnedest to win one before this happened. Sad that he didn't see one, he was a great owner.

So, when do they trade Votto?

Votto has a no trade clause and it seems like for better or for worse he is doing the same thing that Joe Thomas for the Browns is doing, wants to stay his whole career in one place.
