2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
For the record, I just tried watching Good Morning Football on NFLN. My god that was painful.

I just want to set expectations on these draft picks. I know people are upset at the selection of Chad Thomas in the 3rd round. Realistically a 3rd round pick is a contributor but not necessarily a starter. Here's an article from 2014 but I bet the numbers are similar.

RoundFreq.PercentCuml
117829.929.9
210417.547.4
37512.660.0
46410.870.8
5386.477.2
6294.982.0
7254.286.2
Undrafted8113.699.8
Supplemental10.2100.0

12.6% of the starters in 2014 were 3rd round picks. There are more UDFA starters than there are 3rd rounders.

Not upset. More confusion than anything.

Reid went right after our pick. Would have been a great pickup to battle for the fs spot as Dorsey has been preaching competition with the positions on the roster. DT seemed like a good position to grab there in the 3rd as opposed to just a de that I thought never lived up to his hype coming out of hs. He stands a good chance to be a better pro than what he did in college. Just thought we already had enough DEs for competition already. I personally thought we were in more need of LB and DT, with Reid being a darkhorse as I figured he was more of a late 1st/early 2nd round talent.

Maybe these prospects have a lot of red flags that we are not privy to? Be interesting to see what leaks out after the draft about players.

If Corbett is able to earn the LT job right away, that pick looks tremendously better.

I assume he’ll be dumped right into a competition with Shon Coleman and Rod Johnson.

As of now...

LT: Coleman, Corbett, R. Johnson (3 man competition)
LG: Bitonio, Drango
C: Tretter, Reiter
RG: Zeitler
RT: Hubbard, Stephenson
As long as drango doesn't play LT, I will take that as a win

There are some people who would argue that Corbett was better than Bitonio in college BTW. I think worst case scenario is that he ends up as a high functioning guard.

Corbett and Ward are prime time guys, IMO.

Not sure Corbett is a tackle, but if he is capable enough athletically he’s absolutely going to be really good.

Will do something of a “what I would have done” post-mortum.

Really disappointing thus far.

So you love those two guys a lot, I'm assuming you dislike Chubb, Baker, and Thomas? Otherwise I don't see how it'd be disappointing.

That would be correct.

Chubb, I don’t know. billmac is right, there’s times when he was unplayable. Then you turn on the Auburn game and you see a guy who can go downhill really well.

Thomas and Mayfield are projects, to me. Not what you want out of how many picks they have.

Just so many great players available.

The Browns addressed positions of need, and while some weren't my first choices, I'm willing to see how things play out. Pundits said the team "won the draft" the past 2 years and that got us 1-31. I'm not too concerned about people's opinions. Wins are all that matter.

Well we wanted Dorsey to identify his guy and take him at 1. He did that. My big complaint is his height but looking at this list makes me feel like it’s not the end of the world:

Russell Wilson – 5'11"

Drew Brees – 6'0”

Baker Mayfield - 6’1”

Tyrod Taylor – 6'1"

Aaron Rodgers – 6'2”

Andy Dalton – 6'2”

Teddy Bridgewater – 6'2"

Mitchell Trubisky - 6’2”

Pat Mahomes - 6’2”

Dak Prescott - 6’2”

DeShaun Watson - 6’2”

Ideally you want one more inch from the guy. If he was an inch taller I’d be happier. If he were an inch shorter I’d be really worried. 6’1” is the min height I would want. Still worrisome but let’s hope his other traits are enough to overcome. Been plenty of shit QBs 6’3” and above.

A popular defense on here for Rosen was that the reason he didn't win more games was because the talent around him sucked. Of the top 5 QBs, their schools draft breakdown looks like:

UCLA had 5 players drafted (4 on offense)
USC had 4 players drafted (2 on offense)
Louisville had 4 players drafted (2 on offense)
Oklahoma had 4 players drafted (3 on offense)
Wyoming had 1 player drafted.

You guys seriously over complicate this

UCLA gave up 36.6 points per game, 15th worst in the country

His defense is the reason UCLA sucked and wins for a college QB is a bad way to judge them anyway

I don’t hate the Mayfield pick, but I’m not in love, either. I really want him to be successful. My preference was either Rosen or Darnold, but I still think he can be a terrific football player, and he has plenty of skilled offensive players and a good line around him now. Personally, I was in the “anyone but Allen” camp, so I’m satisfied.

I was thrilled with the Ward pick, even though I thought Chubb was BPA. The secondary had a glaring hole that needed to be filled. They filled it with the best CB prospect and one of the best overall prospects in the draft.

Corbett was also a solid pick and will hopefully fill the void left by Joe Thomas. Honestly, I think he’s going to be a high end starter at the very least, if not a Pro Bowler.

Chubb, I’m kind of confused on. I like him as a prospect and I think he’s going to be a good player as long as he stays healthy, but did you really need him when you just signed Hyde and you still have Duke? He doesn’t have as good hands as Duke does so I can’t imagine they’ll be using him as a receiving back all that much.

Don’t have an opinion on Thomas as I don’t know much about him. The rest of the picks I see as risk/reward type picks, guys with a lot of potential or athleticism that if they pan out they will be great, and if not then at least they didn’t waste a high pick on them.

Overall I give this draft a B. Not perfect, but not overwhelmingly terrible. Time will tell.

Anyone gonna fire up the 2019 thread?
