I don’t hate the Mayfield pick, but I’m not in love, either. I really want him to be successful. My preference was either Rosen or Darnold, but I still think he can be a terrific football player, and he has plenty of skilled offensive players and a good line around him now. Personally, I was in the “anyone but Allen” camp, so I’m satisfied.
I was thrilled with the Ward pick, even though I thought Chubb was BPA. The secondary had a glaring hole that needed to be filled. They filled it with the best CB prospect and one of the best overall prospects in the draft.
Corbett was also a solid pick and will hopefully fill the void left by Joe Thomas. Honestly, I think he’s going to be a high end starter at the very least, if not a Pro Bowler.
Chubb, I’m kind of confused on. I like him as a prospect and I think he’s going to be a good player as long as he stays healthy, but did you really need him when you just signed Hyde and you still have Duke? He doesn’t have as good hands as Duke does so I can’t imagine they’ll be using him as a receiving back all that much.
Don’t have an opinion on Thomas as I don’t know much about him. The rest of the picks I see as risk/reward type picks, guys with a lot of potential or athleticism that if they pan out they will be great, and if not then at least they didn’t waste a high pick on them.
Overall I give this draft a B. Not perfect, but not overwhelmingly terrible. Time will tell.
