2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Also what type of system will he need to be in? Athletes can make plays, but I question the getting hit 20 times a day on his body. WRs don’t take those kind of hits constantly and even with more potections for the QB in this day and age, can he take that many hits?

C'mon now Coach.

In what realistic scenario is Lamar Jackson getting hit 20 times a game in the pros? This is some nonsensical hyperbole.

He's very obviously NOT going to be used exactly like he was in college because QBs are much more precious commodity in the pros. But the point is, he doesn't have to be to still be highly successful.

You just questioned Lamar Jacksons durability and frame while also comparing that frame to a wide receiver.....

Come on coach. Where are we going here.

If you put him side by side with Green they are actually going to be extremely similar size wise and athletic ability. WRs don’t end up being hit as often as a QB will at the end of the day since they may get 10 targets a game at most. You don’t see many thinner built RBs in the NFL, they are all stout guys.

Where I am going is the fact that Jackson is very skinny and will not get any bigger in the NFL. Can that hold up in the NFL?

If Jackson ends up in a passing system where he has to make 30-40 throws, it’s possible by the end of the game he will be hit 15-20 times cause of staying in the pocket and other stuff like that. Scouts think about that when evaluating a player and whatnot.

No quarterback in the NFL gets hit 20 times a game. That is a truly ridiculous statement. In fact, no QB in the league gets his even 10 times a game on average. That simply does not happen.

The absolute worst team in the league at giving up QB hits is the Colts and they're giving up about 8 a game. The vast majority of teams are giving up about 4-5 QB hits a game.

For argument's sake, let's say Jackson will get hit a little more than average because he'll have more designed runs/scrambles (we'll also pretend like he can't slide or step out of bounds), you're still talking about fewer than 10 hits a game.

Alright, you would be surprised how often some QBs get hit/tackled in a game it seems. Either way I don’t want Jackson since I don’t think he will be able to hold up in the NFL. We shall all see in due time if I was way off base or correct.

I'd be surprised? What are you talking about? I just gave you the numbers man. The Colts give up the most QB hits/sacks in the NFL at 8.2 a game. 82 sacks/hits allowed in 10 games. You can see the rest of the teams here: http://www.nfl.com/stats/categoryst...role=TM&d-447263-p=1&d-447263-s=PASSING_QBHIT

Brissett has 38 carries and Tolzien has 2. If neither one of those guys slid, stepped out of bounds or took a knee and were instead tackled on all 40 of those carries, that bumps it up to 122 times Colts QBs have hit the turf in 10 games - 12.2 hits per game.

Now realistically of those 40 carries, at LEAST half were rushes where they weren't touched. It's really probably more like 75%, but for argument's sake we'll call it 50%.

So the Colts, who are the worst team in the league at this mind you, see their QBs hit about 10 times per game. Literally half of what you've argued. The vast majority of NFL teams are in the single digits.

WR's get hit a fuck load more dude.

They have to block.

Notice how he keeps making it seem like Lamar Jackson will only seek out contact in the NFL. Like Lamar Jackson who is the most athletic QB since Vick or probably ever isn't going to be able to avoid being hit in the pros. He's just gonna stand there and get hit like an immobile QB.

Perfect example. Kessler was sacked 3 times on three drives he filled in for Kizer. He was hit because he cannot escape pressure in the pocket. He can't avoid the rush. He can't extend plays. Cody Kessler was sacked more times on 3 drives than Kizer has been in his last two games. You're telling me that if Lamar Jackson was back there i that scenario instead of Cody Kessler that he couldn't avoid that rush? Name a better athlete you've seen at QB.

I can't.

But I also can't name a worse/more innacturate passer that's currently starting in the NFL.

I love the athleticism and tools, but once again he is just not polished enough. He absolutely should not be starting day 1 in the NFL. If you think he can develop into an above average passer that's fine, but to this point he has not shown that ability. He has Terelle Pryor like qualities. I just don't see him being successful unless he can sit and develop his skills for *multiple* seasons behind a proven veteran.

I can. And he's gotten better each season. He makes NFL throws. He's got the best arm talent in this draft. Right now he throws with more anticipation and throws guys open more than Kizer.

I don't see any way the Browns select Jackson at #1. Thus, I don't see any way he's on our roster next year unless he slips to the second or third round.

We're taking a QB at 1.

He does not have the best arm talent in the draft.

Better than Kizer? Probably. Not saying much.
