2018 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It is good to see Bradley and Krieger finishing the season on strong notes with the bats. Merritt is also getting stronger it seems like as well though I am not sure if he will pitch again in an Indians uniform or not. Mercado has also been looking better of late, especially since he has had more walks than strikeouts in the last 10 games and is hitting .333 in those ten games with a few multi hit games.

Yep. Don’t forget about McKenzie too. He can bring the heat.

Ehh, he's actually 90-93.

That's not to say he isn't a fantastic prospect or anything but he's not really known for his velocity.

He is growing into some velocity, though, with reports he touched 95 for the first time in his career just last week.

Mejia has 2 HR tonight in his 2nd Padres game

Do you know if we changed anything in his mechanics or has he had injuries and now he is kind of healthy? (aka like a Clevinger when we got him he was finishing up his recovery from Tommy John)

No idea. It's certainly interesting nonetheless.

Heard Triston McKenzie got shutdown for the rest of the season/postseason due to some elbow soreness.

I am not super worried about it yet. I mean he is kind of still filling his frame out and he is still really young. I will worry if he comes into spring training with the same soreness/issue.

This is looking at next season, but there is likely a lot of movement on this roster for next season, so we need to look at who could be added to the 40 man roster.

Free Agents/Likely to be cut:

Tomlin, C. Allen, Miller, Merryweather (Blue Jays), O.Perez, Donaldson, Rosales, Barnes, Brantley, Cabrera, Chisenhall, Davis

On the roster bubble next season:

Edwards, Hoyt, Taylor, Otero, Guyer, Stamets, N. Ramirez, Plutko (Out of options)

Coming back from injury

Anderson, Goody, Salazar (All three I think should be ready for spring training)

Trade Candidates

Kipnis, EE

Currently cause of injuries, we have 47 people on the 40 man roster, 12 will be free agents, leaving us with automatically 35 players. I honestly expect at least 3 more to be off the roster (Hoyt, Edwards to the minors if possible and Kipnis to be traded).

Starting next offseason I expect no more than 32 players on our 40 man roster. So I want to look at candidates for the 40 man roster.

Guys like McKenzie, Sandlin, Calica, Ice, Civale, Karinchak don't have to be protected by the 40 man roster, so you won't see any of them likely added to the first 40 man roster when the offseason starts.

My list of guys that likely will be added to the 40 man roster when the offseason starts:

1B Bobby Bradley
OF Tyler Krieger
LHP Sam Hentges

Guys who may be added:

OF Conner Marabell
OF Ka'ai Tom
LHP Ryan Merritt
RHP Kieran Lovegrove
RHP Henry Martinez

Long Shots to get added:

1B/OF Mike Papi
RHP Jake Paulson
RHP Shao-Ching Chiang
RHP Kyle Dowdy
LHP Rob Kaminsky
RHP Evan Marshall

Going into next season with really only 2-3 guys that I feel like have to be protected in from the Rule 5 draft, there is a lot of open space on this roster currently at the moment. It is quite possible if we trade Kipnis and EE a couple of those spots will be taken.

Invite from the minors who could make the team/40 man roster:

RHP McKenzie
RHP Sandlin
RHP Karinchak

RHP Civale
RHP Morgan
OF Calica

What do you guys think? Who do you see added to our 40 man roster next season?

I know you may not agree with everyone, but this is just to get out names and whatnot of people so those who aren't familiar with everyone in our minors so they have an idea who this or this is if it comes around to it next season. Also this shows our upper majors has been thinned out when it comes to MLB ready bats, so I feel we are going to have a fair amount of minor league signings when it comes to OF and a ton of guys when it comes to the bullpen.

I think you think about the 40 man roster too much

That aside, this is a nice breakdown of our roster control heading into 2019
