2018 Series #2 | Indians @ Angels | April 2nd, 3rd, and 4th

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Nothing wrong with questioning players. Big problem with questions players because of a 20 AB sample size. When healthy, Kipnis has always been good. He's healthy now, I'd give him at least until June before we talk about writing him off.

Santana was absolutely a mainstay, Bruce was absolutely not. Alonso replaced Santana, and should give us 90% of what Santana did.

At 40% of the cost

I honestly hope you are right.

Historically he's produced at 90% of what Santana has. That's all I can go off of. There's also some upside there since he just started hitting significantly more fly-balls last year.

Ah OK. Guess i'm not up on the stats. From what I've come to understand Alonso only started hitting home runs recently (2017) when he changed his hitting stance.

Okay, Ohtani is Babe Ruth after all

What an unathletic attempt to rob that homerun by Zimmer hahahaa

That’s true, but his career OPS+ is 109 even with the lack of power in his earlier days.

Santana’s is 121, and Alonso was actually better last season.

Alonso's breakout season last year versus Santana's average over the past 4 seasons:

Alonso (2017): .266 BA, .365 OBP, .501 SLG, 28 HR, 67 RBI, 22 2B, 68 BB, 118 K
Santana (2014-17): .246 BA, .363 OBP, .445 SLG, 26 HR, 84 RBI, 30 2B, 102 BB, 110 K

Couple of things here obviously:
- Will Alonso replicate that success? Who knows - but I've already noticed that he's got a comparable eye to Santana even if he doesn't draw triple-digit walks. The power definitely looks like it'll be there. I'd expect at least 22-24 HRs out of him.
- Santana is a superior fielder at first base.

When you look at the money dished out to both, I'm not upset at choosing Alonso over Santana, even if it is maybe a bit of a downgrade.

Plus if we're judging everyone after 5 games, Alonso > Santana

Jesus Edwin had such a feeble AB there.

Me talking shit on Ohtani's offensive skill-set before this series.

Me now:

We do need some offense.

Indians kings of warning track power :chuckle:

This would be a shitty loss. Hopefully Miller/Allen can hold the door and we can get another damn run.
