#25: ATH, Jabrill Peppers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's may be partially blind. But I believe in what they're doing his time around, and I trust this front office just based on the moves they've made thus far for us.

There's something different this time around. You don't sense it as well?
I like some things they've done, I don't like some. Time will tell, but as I've mentioned here and in the Kizer thread I'm more pleased with the picks now based on how they've looked in camp/scrimmage than I was on draft night, which was based on their college performance.

Really, I'm just happy the organization has committed to a true rebuild and seems aligned top to bottom for the first time in my life, regardless of a draft pick I may not like here or there (which happens to every fanbase). I just hope this regime gets to keep it going even if our record this year is bad...which I fully expect it to be, even if these rookies look solid. I like this FO, I like Hue, but Haslam can still fuck this entire thing up at any point.

Did he play any defensive snaps tonight? I don't remember seeing him at safety the entire game.

On New Orleans' first scoring drive he was in there for at least a couple plays. Beyond that, I don't recall seeing him either. Strange to say the least.

Honestly, looked good on the punt/kick returns. He made one mistake in taking the fair catch when basically all of NO was doing burpees on the field, but let the nerves settle.

The one takeaway from last night is that he looks like he's a gamer, which is an important intangible. He ripped off a couple nice returns relying on his field vision and definitely appeared to have that coveted "2nd motor", trying to run through guys.

I think he will be most useful in sneaky offensive packages and on special teams initially. He is going be a work in progress defensively considering he basically freelanced all the time at UM. He will get more reps though with Campbell going down with a concussion. Dude looked like he was out cold for a second.

I would not say his assignments were based on freelancing. From what I remember, he was primarily used as an edge OLB for containment purposes due to the lack of front 7 speed. With that being said, his assignments were of the grunt work that provided little glory. Residing mostly in the box, his area of improvement will most likely be coverage abilities and reading routes.

I personally like his skill set and am intrigued to see his development as a true safety - whether he is interchanging between FS or SS.

I don't know why but I get this "Belichick-era" browns player vibe off of him.

With Collins, Peppers and Garrett, the defense is just starting to look different than since that era.

We have elite athletes now at defensive positions, when was the last time we could say that.

Great foundation so far.

Hell some of the situational guys are looking good.

I saw Nassib making plays. I can't recall who made the one sack, but it was one he didn't get credit for. What he did was just blow his blocker off the ball and helped destroy the aforementioned play.

I don't quite know how the offense will look. But the defense is really looking like it's much improved.

I thought some situational guys looked pretty good as well. The defense had some good moments (Collins seemed to be everywhere), but Danny Shelton is out there looking like a giant turd.

Bill Barnwell just did an AFC North preview. One of the things discussed about the Browns was just how bad the safety play was last season. Hopefully, Jabrill doesn't look back; he doesn't have much standing in the way.
