Cleveland Cavaliers Summer League 2019

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Be honest. Did you watch him at Marquette, or are you just basing that on the fact that he didn't get regular minutes and his stats?

Can't say for certain. I usually watch a few Marquette games a year. So odds are I saw him and he just didn't stand out to me. I will admit I didn't see many of his games at Wisconsin - Green Bay.

I also don't think we should use a 2-Way spot on a 24 year old Guard-Small Ball SF when we already have Sexton, Garland, Windler, KPJ, and all the vets. Maybe I'm just angry that we keep signing guards and the only bigs we have brought in for SL are Marquese Bolden and Dean Wade. With just Zizic and Wade on the 2 Way we have no bigs to try and develop. But have a ton of Guards/Small wings.

Sure, but our team right now has Thompson, Henson, Zizic, Love, and Nance already as bigs. Plus, Dean Wade is a stretch 4 on one of our two-way contracts.

I think we could use a few wings. Guys we have that can only play the guard position: Sexton, Garland, Clarkson, Delly, Knight, and arguably Porter Jr.

We need more guys who can play the 3, if you ask me. Right now that group looks to be Windler, Cedi, and Nwaba (if we bring him back).

KPJ can play SF he has a 6-9 wing span just short of Windlers 6-10 wingspan and hes got athleticism to handle it. If Nwaba comes back which I doubt he doesn't fit what Beilein likes in a wing he can't stroke it. That's at least 4 players who can play SF. But we are looking at it the wrong way I hope hes gone but if he's not Clarkson will get minutes at SF which is horrifying but I guarantee Beilein will play him there if hes on the roster.

Porter Jr. definitely has the size, but we'll see if that's a spot he can settle into. It would solve some issues.

Height: 6-5
Weight: 190
Position: SG
College: Wisconsin-Green Bay
Age: 23

2018-2019 Season Stats
PPG: 17.5
RPG: 6.4
APG: 4.7
BLK: 1.1
STL: 1.9
To add, he also has around a 6'10 wingspan.

Per KenPom, Cohen was an adept foul drawer in his final year at Green Bay with a 48.5 percent free throw rate and 5.4 fouls drawn per 40 minutes. Couple that with a 76.7 free throw line, and you have the makings of an efficient, attacking offensive player.

Certainly, Cohen’s ability to leverage his solid frame (6-foot-6, 200 pounds, 6-foot-10 wingspan) into attacking the rim at will will be promising at the next level for the Atlanta Hawks.

I didn't realize he was that long. The defensive upside is there and he has more offensive upside then a guy like Nwaba. I'm still wondering where the bigs are though. With reported players its like 8 PG SG Small SF types Bolden and Wade. Is Zizic playing again?

Fortunately, the 3 isn't a very important position in the modern NBA.

Well, that's an excellent point. However, I think the old school 4 is what's really disappearing.

Old school 3's now play the modern 4, and old school 4's now play the 5. So really, the 3 in today's game is just a long guard who can hit the three and guard a variety of positions.

Be honest. Did you watch him at Marquette, or are you just basing that on the fact that he didn't get regular minutes and his stats?

I watched him at Marquette, he was the only recruit to stay committed Marquette following Buzz Williams departure for Virginia Tech. Sandy looked like he had a lot of potential, and projected as a high level 3 & D guy, but he was physically weak, had very low confidence on the floor and would disappear for games at a time. As a result Coach Wojo steadily cut his minutes. Did not watch him at UW-Green bay. His sister, Natisha Heideman, was a tremendous shooter/scorer for Marquette's women and was drafted by the WNBA this year.

That's fine but players change.

A lot of times, at this level (transitioning from college to the NBA) guys with physical talent cannot make it because of a variety of factors including system, coaching changes, lack of confidence, etc.

I know next to nothing about about him other than some resume items but things do stand out to me:

1. All-Horizon 1st team - It's a good league and it produces NBA players. Bad players do not get all league honors in it. Typically, 1-2 have come out of that league in each draft.....including Hayward, McKinnie, Forbes, etc.

2. Led his team in all major stat categories......and the team had a winning record. Seems like a really well rounded wing player.

3. He seemed to play well against the bigger schools on their schedule.....MSU, Oregon, Iowa, Creighton.

4. Top 100 HS recruit, so he clearly had / has talent.

5. Looks like he's comfortable attacking at all 3 levels.

6. He actually has defensive highlights. :chuckle:

Give him a chance.....who cares why he left Marquette.

His body movements remind me of Iggy. Just his cadence, gait, etc.

So for Summer League our roster currently sits at

Combo Guard - Phil Booth, Naz Mitrou-Long
SG/SF - Dylan Windler, Jalen Hudson, Anthony Lawrence, Sandy Cohen III
Bigs - Dean Wade, Marquese Boldin

Unknown Status - Collin Sexton, Darius Garland (Reportedly unlikely he plays), Kevin Porter Jr. (Unsure if he makes it to Utah SL will surely play in Vegas)

Am I missing anyone? Really don't have a true PG on the SL Roster currently so I wonder if Sexton and/or Garland suit up for at least a couple games. Got a ton of Wings and Combo guards so far.

Was just curious where he sat, since I did not have him in my database:

Compared to peers, per 100 ranks in:

Good in: 2P%, STL, AST, GS/ADJ (non scoring / role playing metric)
Above average in: FTA, FT%,
Average in: FG%, 3PA, 3PT%,

He fits the profile I like though:

PPFGA - 1.446 - This metric is really good for a wing. #6 for SG's
FTA/FGA - 0.478 - This metric is really good for a wing. #4 for SG's
3P/PTS - 0.257 - This is average. So if you like his shooting potential with Beilein, he's already an efficient scorer. Get this metric up and he's a promising bench scorer type.

I've talked about it before but if you believe in shooting development, he's an efficient scorer as a lower volume, average percentage 3PT shooter. If he sees improvements in either or both, you can see a meaningful jump in efficiency.

He slots as an average wing prospect in my stuff, which is a compliment as an un-drafted player. Average prospect profile guys have a decent chance to make it, regardless of if drafted or not.

Besides the whole "fit" thing we got into earlier, it seems you also have this fixation with rankings on generic media sites early in the process. Do you understand why those rankings would be poor? If you're going to claim that an organization's draft board should be based off of generic media shitposts, which is basically what those draft rankings are early on, then I'd encourage you to listen a bit more and read up on some of the things that get posted on RCF.

You're the only person on the planet claiming the Cavs drafted Darius Garland in order to immediately trade him. Yet, somehow, it's clearly everyone else who's ignorant, crazy, etc.

I'm done responding to this line of nonsense in a thread that has nothing to do with it.
I can't figure out where you come up with this shit at. Those rankings were not shitpost media rankings. They were the highly recruited 5 stars that were expected to go high and everyone knew it.
Contrary to whatever does or doesn't happen with Garland, the fact that so many on here do not acknowledge flipping him was and remains a strong possibility with Sexton on the roster doesn't make me crazy or ignorant, for recognizing the opportunity to get someone better than Garland and more proven than anyone else that was on the board etc.
I actually have less confidence in this org going forward if they don't trade him.

Usually we grab some guys from Canton.

Guys like Adel, Scoochie Smith, etc. as mentioned in the beginning of the thread likely fill out some of the holes.
