Do you think Lue will be on a short leash this year? I am thinking his inadequacies as a coach will really shine through without Lebron taking over and winning for him.

I could see him not playing Sexton or Cedi, and if that happens im turning the Cavs off until they get a new coach.

I will bet you anything that this does not happen. I can't believe I see this take all over the site.

I just hope the Sexton starts this season. If Lue wants Sexton to really develop he needs to get major minutes.
I guessing it will be a case of Sexton starting the season on the bench and taking over a starting role as the season goes along.

I don't mind new rookies having to "earn" their starting role. It sets a good precedence...so long as their (hopefully) good play is eventually rewarded.

I get the earning a starting spot then, but it might be easier to get a vet to come off the bench to begin with rather than benching him.

He should be starting right away IMO.

I don't hate the idea of bringing him off the bench and dangling the starting spot as a reward as long as he's still getting a guaranteed 25+ minutes per game. Could ease his transition a little. At the end of the day, though, the Sexton-Hill starting backcourt just makes too much sense.

Why does it make sense? Honest question.

Hill's the closest thing we have to a veteran mentor PG, he's comfortable playing on and off the ball as necessary, and he can also guard both backcourt positions which'll save Sexton from getting bulldozed by the Westbrooks and Walls of the NBA early on.

Sexton-Hill-Osman-Love-Nance seems like it could be a really fun starting line-up. Lots of basketball IQ to go around there.

OK. I like that rationale.

My concern is Sexon starting and struggling, where the pressure starts to mount.

That’s the primary reason for keeping the vets around....

If you’re gonna perhaps build your team around a PG you have to have a team built with good habits— usually associated with a veteran club...

He likes pressure.

He’s a competitor. I don’t see the point in not starting him. There’s literally no one else I’d rather see.

Hill?
Clarkson?

Play the rook. Hell, I’m hoping they give Sexton, Cedi and Ziz a lot of minutes. There’s absolutely no reason not to.

Should help having 2 ball handlers in Hill and Cedi in the starting lineup then right?

I think Sexton is not one to bend under pressure. My guess is his main problem will be turning it over and dribbling right into the defender under the hoop to begin with. Gotta let him adjust to those 2 things

Sexton is, what, 19 years old? He played 987 minutes last year at Alabama. If he plays 25 mpg he will eclipse that total by mid-season. Whether he starts or not, we had better be at least cognizant of the minutes he's playing. He will hit a wall at some point.
