JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Awful news for J.R. and his family. He is really having a rough past few months. I looked online and the chances of survival at that age are very, very slim. Very sad.

Indeed. And high chance of significant lifelong disabilities if does survive. Gut wrenching.

Wow, that is really sad, 5 months early? What I found shows that there is 0% chance of survival unless they get to 22 weeks. That seems like 5 months early would not be 22 weeks??

Regardless of this specualtion, I hope the baby survives and doesn't have any major issues. Very sad situation.

Keep JRs family in your prayers. I've been through this. It's very, very tough.

I recently went through this with my son (born at 26 weeks - 1lb 8oz at birth). He turned 3 in August, and so far is perfectly normal other than some early lung issues. My wife and I were very fortunate.

Having gone through the process they're just beginning, I can tell you the anxiety and stress is hard to describe. However, you would be amazed at how resilient and strong a newborn can be, no matter what size. And the Docs and nurses who work in these NICU units are some of the most impressive people you'll ever meet. There are twists and turns every day, but with some good luck and a lot of brilliant people providing care and guidance, the success rate is infinitely better than it was even 5-6 years ago.

Hang in there Smith family, you got this.

Best wishes to Jr and his loved ones..

I was born 2.5 months early in 1987 weight 750 grams... dont know whats that in lbs(should be around 1.5?).. the doctors back then said my chance of survival was around 3% ... yet still here i am and the postnatal medicine has gotten immensly better the last 30 years..

fingers crossed..

Terrible heartbreaking situation. But at least he'll have all the time he needs to be with his family and doesn't have to worry about rushing back to play.

Thoughts are with JR and his family.

The only positive about his injury is that he can take whatever time he needs to be with his family through this difficult situation. This is way more important that basketball regardless.

Get your family right, JR, the boys have this thing under control.

Positive vibes to the Smith family right now

My eldest was in the NICU for three days, but ours wasn't very severe at all. I did see and meet a few families with premature babies while we were there. Of course they show up to be with the baby as often as their schedule allows, and my admiration was sky high for them. The medical world improves every year. I think this might have expedited the Korver trade, and that was a strong message to JR that there's no work pressure this year. Best to his wife as well. Sports can absolutely be family. Everyone has their back!

Quick question:

Does JR Smith have the skill set to profit from some of the plays that Rivers used for Ray Allen and Lue is now putting in for Kyle Korver? Or is he far more successful at spacing the floor and more-stand-still catch-and-shoot? I want some stats...

No stats here, but from what I've seen, JR CAN hit coming of screens, but I think the thing that makes Korver and Allen special in that regard is their lightning quick release. JR doesn't have that quick of a release. He's very good and contorting his body on the move though and squaring up enough to hit tough shots, that's a skill-set of his, but I think the fact that flying of screens gives you such little time before somebody is right on your hip, JR isn't as good as those other guys at it. I feel like he's much better catch&shoot off a pass or even being able to take a dribble move to create the same space a screen does and rise up. (because hes a much better ball handler)

But I have seen him hit threes coming off of screens before while here. I don't think JR is going to want to run that much on offense either :chuckle::chuckle:, hes very good at "sliding" into gaps where the ball handler can find him
