After a disappointing home loss to the injury ravaged Miami Heat, the Cavs make their annual visit to Minnesota to engage the 3rd place Timberwolves, who are 23-9 at home. These teams played in Cleveland just two weeks ago with the Cavs winning in overtime. Mitchell, Mobley, and Strus were out for the Cavs while Karl-Anthony Towns was out for Minnesota. Naz Reid poured in a season high 34 points off the bench to send it to overtime but Rudy Gobert fouled out and the Cavs prevailed. The T-Wolves have won 5 of their last 10 but the losses were all to strong teams: Denver, Cleveland, the Lakers, the Clippers, and Sacramento. The Wolves are 1.5 games out of the top seed in the West. Towns is still out for the Wolves while Mitchell...

Sigh. Another win followed by a letdown loss. The pattern is obvious, but the pain is still real. The Cavs faced another team with as many injuries, at home, but it still wasn’t enough. The Heat led most of the game and made enough plays in the end. The Heat led the game for 40+ minutes yet the Cavs had every chance to win in the end. For a game the Heat controlled most of the way, all the Cavs had to do was hit a one or two clutch shots late or not give up nine points in three consecutive late possessions. But yet, here we are. The game started out for the Cavs the same way it started: Sloppy. Which, for the most part, the Cavs played a sloppier than usual uninspired game. The Heat scored 31 points in the first quarter and made six...
The Cavs return home after a 2-1 road trip to take on the Miami Heat, who are currently in 8th place and one game out of 6th as they fight to avoid the play-in tournament. The Heat actually have a better winning percentage on the road at 20-16. The Heat are struggling, having lost 5 of 7 with both wins coming against the hapless Detroit Pistons. The Heat have not beaten a team with a winning record since Sacramento on Feb. 26. The Heat, like the Cavs, have injury issues. Tyler Herro, Josh Richardson, Kevin Love, and Duncan Robinson are out while Jimmy Butler and Nikola Jovic are questionable. They are missing about 53 points per game in scoring and if Butler and Jokic are also out that’s 27 more. The Cavs and Heat are 1-1 this...
Welcome to the Cavaliers Coaster -- price of admission: pain and joy. Up and down, we go, as the Cavs have alternated win and losses consistently for the last month. They have not won or lost more than two in a row over the last 17 games. After a disappointing loss in Houston, the Cavs rollercoaster works it way back up with a win in Indianapolis. The Cavs were 0-2 coming into the night allowing 120+ points in both previous outings against the Pacers. Tonight, the Cavs won and allowed just 103 points. The Pacers only scored less three times in 2024. At the start, it didn’t look like it was going that way. The Pacers scored 34 points in the first quarter and shot 60.9% FG. In the following three quarters the Pacers scored 69 points and...
The Cavaliers three-game road trip ends in Indiana against the 38-30 Pacers, who are in 6th place just 0.5 games ahead of Philadelphia and Miami as they fight to avoid the play-in tournament. Obviously every game is huge for the Pacers from here on out. The Pacers are 21-14 at home and 2-0 against the Cavs this year. However, both games were in the first week of the season and both teams have changed a lot since then. The Pacers traded for PF Pascal Siakam and sent out Bruce Brown and Buddy Hield. They also lost Bennedict Mathurin to a season-ending injury nine days ago. Those three players combined to score 41 points per game. Since trading for Siakam the Pacers are 14-13. He hasn’t exactly taken them to the next level. They were...
