The NBA schedule makers have drawn the ire of the Cavaliers organization of late, but they must be thanked for tonight. The Cavs welcomed in the NBA’s slump busters: the Charlotte Hornets. If there was ever a time the Cavs needed a home Charlotte game, it was tonight. There’s no need to rehash last night but the Cavs were coming in a rough spot. They were on a three-game losing streak and got their manhood snatched in South Beach. If it was game 21, it may have not been as big as an issue. But it was game 71, and the playoffs inching are closer by the day, and so are the teams chasing the three seed. So, the Cavs needed a get right game. Clear the bad energy and bring in the good. Too bad Ms. Cleo isn’t still around. The ball and player...
Following their worst beating of the year and fourth worst of the Bickerstaff era at the hands of the undermanned Miami Heat, the Cavs limp home to take on the Charlotte Hornets on the second night of a back-to-back. The Hornets were off Sunday. This will be the first meeting of the season between these teams. They will play again on Wednesday in Charlotte. The Hornets are 17-53 overall and 8-29 on the road. They have lost 11 of their last 13 games. Saturday they lost by 41 to Atlanta. The Hornets will not have their leading scorer, LaMelo Ball, who is averaging 23.9 points and 8.0 assists in 22 games this season. Also on the injury list are Seth Curry, Cody Martin, and starting center Mark Williams. Their four injured players combine...
You want a recap? This game doesn’t deserve a recap. The game was so bad JB Bickerstaff did a full line substitution early into the third quarter. The starters were yanked, and it was a full bench unit. That’s how bad the starters were. At half, the starters were -11, -19, -11, -20, -14. By game’s end, they were -22, -17, -17, -26, -20. There’s not a whole lot to say after a loss like that. Tonight was the fourth worst loss in the Bickerstaff Cavalier era. The top-10 worst losses all came in 2021 season with the exception of November 2023.. to the Miami Heat. Bickerstaff is now 6-10 versus Erik Spoelstra and the Miami Heat as a Cavaliers head coach. Games like these are painfully obvious what a coaching disadvantage the Cavs be faced...
Losers of 5 of their last 7 games the Cavs take their talents, those they have left, to South Beach for a rematch against the Heat. Miami beat the Cavs four days ago by a 107-104 score in Cleveland. The Heat are 38-32 overall and 17-16 at home. They have lost 6 of 9 with the only wins coming against the Pistons (twice) and the Cavs. Both teams are staggering under the weight of multiple injuries to key players. The Heat will not have Tyler Herro, Josh Richardson, Duncan Robinson, and Kevin Love. Those four combine to average 53 points per game. In addition, Jaime Jaquez and Caleb Martin are questionable. Those two average 22.6 points between them. The Heat only average 109.4 points as a team, so missing anywhere from 53-76 points is...
There was hope but reality eventually set in. The Cavs did enough to keep the game close but the T’Wolves pulled away in the second half and extinguished any semblance of hope that the Cavs would be able to overcome injuries and a top seeded Western Conference team… again. The Cavs defense was good early, and would keep them in the game. The Cavs were doing a good job loading the strong side on defense, and rotating on the weakside off ball movement or drive action. The defense was on a string and had the T’Wolves at 46 points at half. The other part of that was Isaac Okoro, as usual. Despite his shot being as off as Auburn was against Yale in the second half, he was still having an impact. Anthony Edwards finished with only 16 points...
After a disappointing home loss to the injury ravaged Miami Heat, the Cavs make their annual visit to Minnesota to engage the 3rd place Timberwolves, who are 23-9 at home. These teams played in Cleveland just two weeks ago with the Cavs winning in overtime. Mitchell, Mobley, and Strus were out for the Cavs while Karl-Anthony Towns was out for Minnesota. Naz Reid poured in a season high 34 points off the bench to send it to overtime but Rudy Gobert fouled out and the Cavs prevailed. The T-Wolves have won 5 of their last 10 but the losses were all to strong teams: Denver, Cleveland, the Lakers, the Clippers, and Sacramento. The Wolves are 1.5 games out of the top seed in the West. Towns is still out for the Wolves while Mitchell...
