Rumor: Nets, Nuggets, Cavs were CLOSE to 3-way deal last week (Devin Harris to Cavs?)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Rumor: Nets, Nuggets, Cavs were CLOSE to 3-way deal last week (Devin Harris to Ca

i would love to see the Nuggets keeping him if he tells them he won't sign an extension with NJ. that way he would lose at least 20mio, potentially more...

I hope so too. It will be interesting to see which chickens out first. Whether the Nuggets cave near the deadline and move him to new york in fear of getting nothing, or whether Melo gives in and takes the max deal to NJ.

Re: Rumor: Nets, Nuggets, Cavs were CLOSE to 3-way deal last week (Devin Harris to Ca

This is funny to me. Anthony wants to go to one specific team AND he wants the absolute max deal. The world does not revolve around Carmelo Anthony. Doing both is far from easy.

Absolutely ruining the NBA.

The players are running the asylum & Stern better do something about it before he loses even more fans.

I have no problem at all with people going where they want to in free agency.

But when players start talking with execs years in advance & conspiring (Yeah, I'm talking about the Heat.. And I know somebody will tell me there's no proof.. and to you I say: Stop being so damn naive) to get 2 of the biggest names in the NBA (and Chris Bosh) onto a certain team, there's a problem.

And when we have players causing a circus like this in their free agent year. Meeting with other teams, saying he'll only sign with the Knicks, etc, there's a problem.

Yes, Denver gave him permission to meet with them. But what are they going to say? "Oh, nah, he probably won't re-sign with us, just have him meet with them in the off-season, when we have a slimmer chance to get something back for him"? Of course if you give Denver the option of giving him permission, they're going to take it in order to get a lil more value in return!

This is absolutely ridiculous & the NBA is turning into a fuckin circus.

This is exactly why a lot of people prefer college over the pros.

I already don't watch any other NBA activities besides my Cavs.

I completely agree. It ruins it for the fans and for all the bottom of the barrel teams that are trying to rebuild for the future. I too barely watch anything NBA related, besides my Cavaliers.

I'm fine if the guy wants to go to New York and only play for the KNicks. But then he needs to man up and live with the fact that it just might mean he loses a lot of money in the process.

I'm only 23 and I've preferred college over the pros for about 10 years now. It's just an all around better game, better basketball, and less bullshit.

I'll just say I much prefer the pros to college. Enjoy the better shooting and better floor spacing.

Re: Rumor: Nets, Nuggets, Cavs were CLOSE to 3-way deal last week (Devin Harris to Ca

I have to say, I don't understand why people think college bball is so good? There's so many jacked up jump shots, it drives me crazy, and no one can shoot.

-Less drama B.S overall
-NCAA Tourney
-More players who will actually run the offense, give a damn about playing defense, & play with heart & passion.
-Way better atmosphere in the arenas
-Playoffs are more competitive & are taken more seriously. 1 loss in a series doesn't mean much in the NBA, but in the NCAA, it means you're done.

Just off the top of my head..

I do agree the structuring is better. The tourney is awesome. I just don't think the basketball is nearly as good.

The less people root for the fucking heat, the less this shit gets accepted.

HAHAHAHAHA, I love it

Yes because Derick Rose cheating his way into college and OJ Mayo accepting tons of gifts isn't bullshit. Not to mention the bull shit of Mayo calling the coach and saying I'm playing for you. That's just the tip of the iceberg. I haven't even mentioned all the shit coach Cal is accused of and probably has done.

Deron Williams wants to go to NYK in 2012.

You're talking about not only just a couple of instances (and don't get me wrong, I'm sure there's more), but also just in the recent past (again, I'm sure it's happened before too).

Just overall less bullshit in college. Most athletes aren't quite as pampered & primadonna-y in the NCAA.

Great post! These are my thoughts exactly. I absolutely disagree with anyone who tries to say there is no proof that the Heat were invovled in any type of tampering. There's a shit load of proof! Consider the following events that took place over last season:

- It was a contract year for the top 3 2010 FAs. If you are an owner/GM, and you have a star that is in his contract year, and you want to sign that player to a multi year deal, you do everything you can to show him that you're willing to build a winning team around him. Gilbert did just about everything he could. The Raptors made some moves to show Bosh they wanted to keep him. The only team of the 3 to actually shed salary was the Heat. I remember listening to the talking heads on ESPN. They were discussing who was the most likely FA to leave their team. Almost all of them agreed that it had to be Wade, because the Heat were doing absolutely nothing to try and build a winner around him. Little did we all know that everyone in the Heat FO knew exaclty what the Big 3 were planning to do.
- Pat Riley discusses with Lebron after a Cavs/Heat game why he should change his number. The media reports that Riley was talking about respecting Jordan. But even a blind man can see that it was because the Heat had already retired the number 23.
- Last summer, during the FA period when Lebron had all the teams come to Cleveland, who was the only one that was aloud to talk to Lebron's team prior to their scheduled meeting? It was Pat Riley. There was an article in the plan dealer talking about Riley flying in the night before the Heat's scheduled meeting and talking with Maverick Carter. Hell, there was even a picture in the paper of the two of them sitting in the lobby of IMG talking the night before.
- Lebron's mysterious elbow injury in the Chicago series. So, whatever happened with his elbow? Anything? The cure to his elbow occured just as mysteriously has his injury did.
- Of course game 5 against Boston is huge proof. But I was really fascinated to hear Windy's comments about game 5. The day after game 5, Windy was on WKNR and he said the following:
- "Lebron doesn't understand how much damage he's done to his legacy with last night's performance. He thinks everyone will forget about this over time, but noone will forget"
- "I will never talk about Lebron in the same sentence with Kobe, ever"
- "Lebron will never win another MVP award until he wins a championship"
- "Dan Gilbert knows something is wrong and that's why he changed his seat. He sat courtside beside the Cav's bench so that he can see first hand what's going on"
- Then the next day, the night of Game 6, Windy was back on WKNR and said the following:
- "I've been around this team enough to know something's wrong. Lebron is not acting like he normally does, and it's effecting the whole team. I have to honestly say that they will not win this game tonight"

The cliche that "hindsight is always 20/20" was never more true than with Lebron. I remember I was absolutely confused when the above was happening. But as soon as Lebron announced he was going to the Heat, all the pieces of the puzzle fit perfectly in place. What surprised me the most with last summer's circus is that I came to the realization that Stern is powerless. I used to think that he was a bad ass motherfucker that ruled the NBA with an iron fist. I now think it's clear as day to everyone that he has no control, and that surprises me. About the only control he has is to throw out jouvinile fines only when he needs to keep his ego in check. If he had any balls, or any character, or any ethics, he would have made a bold statement right after the FA period was over. He should have made a public statement that said something along the lines of, " I want all of you to know that what happened with this summers FA period was wrong. Unfortunately there's nothing I can do about it. With the way the current CBA is written, I cannot go back and prevent this from happening. But I gaurantee that this will never happen again. I will make sure that the new CBA will prevent anything like this from happening again. This is not what I entended the NBA to represent. The system is broken, and I will fix it."

That ass didn't say anything like that. Instead, he made the following public statements, "I think this is good for the NBA", "There is no proof of tampering", "I don't understand why anyone outside of Cleveland would boo Lebron James in public", etc.

If the whole thing was determined long before the actual press conference's were delivered then LeBron would not have filed to have his jersey changed with the league; instead, he would have just changed it when he went to the Heat as you are allowed to do so.

The LeBron filing for his number to be changed point actually leads me to believe that he had not completely made up his mind at the point he filed for it, but in the Chicago series he made up his mind, and basically F'd us in the A.
