Rumor: Nets, Nuggets, Cavs were CLOSE to 3-way deal last week (Devin Harris to Cavs?)

Re: Rumor: Nets, Nuggets, Cavs were CLOSE to 3-way deal last week (Devin Harris to Ca

The Nuggets should take the Knicks offer without Mozgov and quit being dumb. Taking away Chandler, Gallinari, and Felton is a big blow to the Knicks, especially if Billups demands a buyout.

That leaves them with STAT, Melo, and Fields as their only above-average players. They would get destroyed by Chi, Orl, Mia, Bos.

Unlike LeBron, Carmelo cannot run an offense (even if it is mostly PnR) if asked to do so. The Knicks would be screwed for this year at least, and the Nuggets aren't going to get shit for him in the off-season.
Billups isn't going to demand a buyout in NY, lol.
When was the last time we bought a pick? What makes people think we could buy a pick or picks this year? You need both a seller and a buyer, so I'm not understanding the reasoning behind the article saying we most likely would buy a pick. Maybe I'm reading it wrong?
The Cavs history of buying picks is....completely irrelevant.

Teams buy draft picks every year. That's why.

Disagree. On Saturday, Stern said a franchise tag is going to be part of labor talks this offseason. If owners get that concession from the players then Melo is going to be stuck in Denver and New York will be out a top 15 player.

Also, when you consider what New York is giving up in comparison to what their roster will look like this summer, the deal makes a lot of sense. Curry is an expiring and will be gone. Felton for Billups is basically a wash since both contracts expire next year. And Chandler would have to be let go for the Knicks to have the cap room to sign Melo to a max deal.

After all that the trade is basically Galinari and a pick for Melo. That's a great deal for the Knicks.
A franchise tag wouldn't keep Melo there. If he were tagged, he'd just get even more frustrated, become a bigger distraction, and likely demand a trade.

That's part of the reason why keeping him until the end of the season is unlikely. He's just too big of a distraction and that distraction isn't going to go away until he is traded.

Right. Because NFL players who get franchised are constantly traded.

We have no idea how a franchise tag would play out. But it's enough of a threat to force Melo and the Knicks to push for a trade now instead of waiting until the offseason.

Bucher was just on ESPN New York...

His comment was what happens to the Knicks if they sign Melo to a max with Amare and there is a hard cap??? They will be screwed...

So my question if if this happens then obviously the Heat would be in the same boat what would happen to these teams that are capped out on two or three players...

I didn't know the NFL was the NBA.

That doesn't mean the Knicks need to keep bidding against themselves. Like I said, chances are Denver won't hold onto Melo past the deadline either way (and that's the smart move), and apparently Melo still doesn't want NJ....so the Knicks just need to wait it out until Thursday, not keep increasing their offer.

How can you say a team is screwed when nobody knows what the hard cap would even be?

This trade rumor has officially jumped the shark.

Sources say NJ in talks w/Den to send 2 1st round picks to Den for Mozgov & either Gallinari, Chandler or Felton, if Melo traded to NYK

That'd only happen if the Knicks even decided to include Mozgov, which I doubt. But if they do, this 4-way deal would work out, with DEN getting a pick from NY and 2 picks from NJ:

Hard cap will be gradual and much higher than the current soft cap. Heat will have less to work with to sign new players if the hard cap is put in, but it wont be instant and it wont be at the level of the current soft cap.

I dont think we will see a hard cap though, they will pull the strings in a bit on our current soft cap, but still be able to go over the cap for most of the reasons you can go over the cap today.

Broussard mentioned on twitter that it would be two seperate deals:

Chris_Broussard

NJ-Den trade for NYK players would not be 3-way with NYK; it would be 2 separate deals

Re: Rumor: Nets, Nuggets, Cavs were CLOSE to 3-way deal last week (Devin Harris to Ca

I dont see Knicks making the deal now knowing Denver is trading half of the package to New Jersey

Re: Rumor: Nets, Nuggets, Cavs were CLOSE to 3-way deal last week (Devin Harris to Ca

If the Nets get this done, it may be better then ACTUALLY getting Melo. They'd be the real winners of the Melo deal, followed by Denver for dumping salary, and netting picks and one/two pieces (Felton/Chandler/Gallo).

Good for denver/nets

To hell with the Knicks
