Re: Rumor: Nets, Nuggets, Cavs were CLOSE to 3-way deal last week (Devin Harris to Ca
Teams buy draft picks every year. That's why.
That's part of the reason why keeping him until the end of the season is unlikely. He's just too big of a distraction and that distraction isn't going to go away until he is traded.
Billups isn't going to demand a buyout in NY, lol.The Nuggets should take the Knicks offer without Mozgov and quit being dumb. Taking away Chandler, Gallinari, and Felton is a big blow to the Knicks, especially if Billups demands a buyout.
That leaves them with STAT, Melo, and Fields as their only above-average players. They would get destroyed by Chi, Orl, Mia, Bos.
Unlike LeBron, Carmelo cannot run an offense (even if it is mostly PnR) if asked to do so. The Knicks would be screwed for this year at least, and the Nuggets aren't going to get shit for him in the off-season.
The Cavs history of buying picks is....completely irrelevant. When was the last time we bought a pick? What makes people think we could buy a pick or picks this year? You need both a seller and a buyer, so I'm not understanding the reasoning behind the article saying we most likely would buy a pick. Maybe I'm reading it wrong?

A franchise tag wouldn't keep Melo there. If he were tagged, he'd just get even more frustrated, become a bigger distraction, and likely demand a trade.Disagree. On Saturday, Stern said a franchise tag is going to be part of labor talks this offseason. If owners get that concession from the players then Melo is going to be stuck in Denver and New York will be out a top 15 player.
Also, when you consider what New York is giving up in comparison to what their roster will look like this summer, the deal makes a lot of sense. Curry is an expiring and will be gone. Felton for Billups is basically a wash since both contracts expire next year. And Chandler would have to be let go for the Knicks to have the cap room to sign Melo to a max deal.
After all that the trade is basically Galinari and a pick for Melo. That's a great deal for the Knicks.
