Cleveland Indians Rumors Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Anyone have a update from the presser?

A basic press conference with no new information. Only thing worth note is Antonetti said that they are perusing a bat more then a pitcher.

FOX reporting something different on Upton than SI...

Sources: At least 5 teams “in play” for Upton
4 hours ago by JonPaulMorosi

At least five teams are “in play” for Rays outfielder B.J. Upton, major-league sources told FOXSports.com.

The Indians, Giants, Braves and Pirates are among the suitors, sources say.

The Royals aren’t seriously pursuing Upton, a source said, because they have prospect Lorenzo Cain in the minor leagues as their likely center fielder of the future. The Pirates and Reds are also looking for outfield bats, but their level of interest in Upton is unclear.

Meanwhile, the Brewers, Rangers, and Phillies — all of whom are seeking outfielders — aren’t in talks with the Rays about Upton.

I personally would like Upton.. We could use his speed in the outfield (vs Kearns) and on the basepaths. Solid leadoff guy in front of Asdrubal, makes Grady situation easier. He may not be an all star but I'd much rather have BJ than Grady

No.

If you're frustrated with Grady, you'll be just as frustrated with B.J, undoubtedly.

Upton will basically provide what Grady did this year when was healthy, which wasn't much. Although he will obviously steal more bases which would be nice. But he is nothing I would want to give up any solid prospect for.

The guy might just need a change of scenery. Hes only 26, not saying him being traded would definitely work out but we can't really say for sure he would be crap like grady. Oh and the asking price for francouer is way too high.

Interesting from Gammons:

Never mind that the Indians did offer to pick up all of Carlos Beltran's remaining Mets contract and give up a good player in return. The deal Scott Boras negotiated with the Mets for Beltran includes a no-trade clause, which Boras refers to as a "ring clause," meaning that if things ground to an end in New York, Beltran had the right to choose where best to go get a ring before entering the free-agent market, and Cleveland did not fit.
