We're heading into July and the Indians are still right there in the American League Central. The rumor mill usually heats up after the 4th of July weekend - let's track the rumors here.

To get us going:

- MLB.com's Jordan Bastian spoke to Indians GM Chris Antonetti, who said that "dialogue with other teams has certainly picked up over the last few weeks." Bastian says the team is likely to make smaller, incremental upgrades, but they are not opposed to dealing prospects.

- Indians manager Manny Acta told Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes that Melvin Mora and Mike Cameron are “interesting” possibilities. Mora was released yesterday and Cameron was designated for assignment today.

- According to Jon Heyman, the Giants don't have much interest in Cleveland's Orlando Cabrera.

Hopefully we can package Jeremy Sowers, Wes Hodges and Jordan Brown for Troy Tulowitski.

If not, I'll blame it on the Dolans.

Mike Cameron and Melvin Mora? Those guys are downgrades to our current bench.

That's too much for Tulo. Rockies would have to throw in their top prospect.

Strange that San Fran has no interest in OCab. The guy has only been to the playoffs about 7 times in the last 8 years. It's not like they are strong in the middle infield either. Frankly, that's fine as I'd rather keep OCab anyway. Our good luck piece to make the playoffs.

Cameron and Mora 'make sense' to Acta b/c they wouldn't cost anything to acquire. I actually wouldn't mind giving Cameron with Choo out- the Indians have the ABs to give him, and if he has anything left in the gas tank he could fill the 4th Ofer/righty bat off the bench role for next year.

If the Tribe does end up making a deal, it needs to be for a player who fills a role longterm on the club. I would much, much rather they make a deal for a younger guy than go out dealing for rentals. This is just a complete waste of resources on a club that is still not close to a finished product. One of the local radio hosts was calling for Hunter Pence, but that kind of a deal makes no sense- Pence is entering his top-money years, the Stros will want top dollar in return for him, he isn't really young anymore, and he is at best a fringe All-Star. Does alot of things well but nothing great.

A guy I would like to see the Tribe target would be Chris Carter of the Athletics. He fell out of favor with them after a bad ML debut last year, and they have jerked him around and had him doing stupid shit like playing the OF. Since being called up 7 days ago he has gotten into exactly two games. With LaPorta out, the team could afford to give him some ABs and when LaPorta comes back, you just shift Matt back to the OF. With the club lacking in power in the high minors he seems like a good guy to take a flier on who wouldn't be simply a rental and who, if he pans, would pay some serious dividends. To me, this is the kind of guys they should be targeting.

Cameron makes sense IMO. He's a great veteran as evidenced by the tears being shed in the Boston clubhouse the last 24 hours. He's taken a very steady approach throughout his career and this is the FIRST YEAR where he's failed to get consistent at-bats when healthy. If his medical record check out (abdominal surgery ended last season) and the Indians can view some tape and see whether or not it's that surgery that's causing his dropoff this season, they should be first in line to pick this guy up.

He's just not going to produce with 25-30 ABs a month. Last year he was getting upwards of 50-60 consistent ABs a month before his injury (two DL stints for the ab/kidney stones). Unquestionably a good pickup to platoon with Buck in right field until Choo is healthy.

The Indians are not going out and getting Carlos Beltran, Hunter Pence or any other short term fix to try and hail mary their way to a division championship. They're going to dance with the one that brung them, and they need THEIR OWN guys to produce to have any reasonable shot at accomplishing their goal.

BTW Josh Judy was called up from AAA Columbus today as Indians gave Perez 2 day absense for his grandma's funeral.

The Indians today placed closer Chris Perez on the bereavement list and recalled right-hander Josh Judy from AAA Columbus.

Perez is in Gainesville, Fla. after the passing of his maternal grandmother. He is third in the American League in saves with 19.

Judy has spent most of the season at AAA Columbus, where he has gone 2-2 with 12 saves and a 3.30 ERA in 27 relief outings. He has 39 strikeouts and 16 walks over 30 innings, with the opposition hitting .241 against him. Since May 13, he owns a Triple-A ERA of 1.08 and has not allowed an earned run in his last eight outings.

Judy was up with the Tribe earlier his year from May 21-25 and made his Major League debut against the Reds on May 22 at Progressive Field. He pitched an inning, allowing two hits and no runs with one strikeout in his only big-league outing to date. He wears No. 45 and will be in uniform tonight at Cincinnati when the Indians open a three-game series at 7:10.

... and this is a rumor?....

Is Felix Hernandez too much to ask, I would give up Knapp and whoever for him.

Being that Seattle is 3.5 games out of first....Yes.

Jason Knapp?...Seriously....?

Isn't Knapp a big time prospect?

I know trading him for a current Cy Young caliber pitcher is unrealistic but still.
