Cavaliers, Mavericks and Bobcats interested in DeMarcus Cousins

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Ok for those of you who are saying that Cousins will tie up cap space for a big time FA in 2014. Who are these big time FA's in 2014?

PG: We're set with Kyrie plus were not spending big bucks on a backup PG
SG: Kobe-LA will probably keep him but he still only has a good 2 years left maybe 3
VC- He's older now and at this point in his career it'll be better to acquire him in a trade
Thabo- He's a MLE guy every team would like to have a defensive stopper like him

SF: Deng- He's a perfect fit for our team as it stand right now and he's not a max guy
Lebron- self explanatory
Caron Butler- I would put him a notch below Deng but still a good player and not a max guy
Grant Hill- He'll probably be retired by next summer
PF: K. Humphries- We have better PF's on out roster right now and he's not gonna cost as much as he gets now
Dirk- He's gonna retire a Mav
Pau- He can be had before 2014
C: Bogut, Gortat, Jordan Hill, Spancer Hawse

Irving - will get max ( if makes another All Star Game will get super max)

TT - will get 10 - 12 if he keeps developing, maybe more.

Do we really want another max player unless it is # 6?

We could have those 2 plus a FA plus Noel on a Rookie Contract vs Cousin on a max deal.

Agree with the bolded

As for TT I think he tops out at 10 mil/yr IF he gets a good offensive game. His defense is stout but he's a PF not a C and he can't guard all the C's in the leauge so he'll have to develop an offensive game to create a mismatch in his favor.

I also do not like the idea of pairing TT with Noel. i know the defensive production out of them would be outstanding but that puts even more pressure on Kyrie to score and we still will not have a go to guy for offense in the post. That would force us to play a SF who could give you at least 20 a night and there's only 3 right now Lebron, KD, Melo.

Going forward we have to decide if we're rolling with TT or taking Noel and trading TT for a second scoring option to go along with Kyrie.

Btw I'm not forgetting about Dion either. I think Dion will top out at 14-21ppg but he's not best suited to be our second scoring option. I think the team is better if we have one guard and 1 big as our top 2 scoring options especially since with having Noel or even keeping TT we would have a defensive presence in the post and it's way easier to get a SF who can get you 15ppg and play stout D than it is to get one that can go for 20 a night and be your second scoring option.

This is a true statement, but I'd like to point out that the only SFs who got 15ppg and played stout D last season were LeBron, Durant, George, Pierce, Deng, and Josh Smith.

I'd raise the low end of that range considering he averaged 14.7 points in less than 30 minutes his rookie season. I agree though that he's best suited not as our #2 option overall (#2 option should ideally be a F or C).

Agreed the only reason I have his ppg lower i because if we bring in a real low post scoring threat he may not get as many touches which is fine if he's efficent ith his scoring. I also think Dion can be a dynamic scorer and he may give you 15 on one night and 30 the next.

I hate seeing Dion getting pushed to a third option when he showed over the second half that he has potential to be a #1. Dion will easily average 18+ a game as both he and his game mature.

Well other than the possibility of signing Lebron in 2014 the only guy you listed that we have a chance at getting is Josh Smith. We could probably obtain Pierce but he's on the downside of his career. Melo, Durant, and George are most def off limits or not gonna be available. As for Josh Smith I'd like to have him only if we draft Noel and we can make a deal for a second scoring option at the PF spot like Love/LA/Horford. The problem with that is it may be hard to obtain thos guys without giving up #1 which essentially is Noel

Can Dion be your leading scoring option on a championship team?

Why is it a bad thing to have Dion as your 3rd option? Would you not want to get Durant, because it would mean Dion would then be your 3rd option? I just don't understand why some posters don't want to keep getting better. They say we have to trade TT if we draft a PF. They don't want us to get another good scorer, because they want Dion to be option #2. Why don't we just get the best team we can with a lot of good players.

What the hell?

We don't want another MAX player unless it's LeBron? Whoever said that deserves a punch to the nostrils, or a swift kick to the scrotum. You CANNOT win a ring in the NBA today without at the very least 2 MAX players. We tried it before and it failed absolutely miserably.

Cousin's is like Rasheed Wallace in terms of talent versus rewardable traits. If we had a vet team like the Pistons did when they obtained Wallace, it would be a no brainer for us. If we made this trade, people would be questioning whether we had a brain.

I love love love Cousions talent, i mean, you can see the skills he owns. His horrific attitude isn't the sort of gamble we can take. He's been a clown since i've seen him in Kentucky and that isn't likely to ever change. There is a big time reason the Kings are looking to move him and it has everything to do with the fact he's a tremendous pain in everyone's a$$hole up there.

Well we already have one max player (Kyrie). Adding Lebron gives us 2. The question i brought up was in the 2014 FA class how many max players are legit options for us. After Lebron who is the #1 option there's Kobe and Dirk neither of which are players we should target. So who are the other max players in 2014 FA

The spurs highest paid player (ginobili) makes $14 million. Parker makes 12.5. Duncan makes $9.6 (clearly duncan should be a max player).

Indy's highest paid player is Hibbert at 13.7 million, next is Granger, who isn't playing, at $13 million, then west at $10 million.

I believe Dallas had just 1 max player two years ago when they won.

Dion is not a #1 option, DeMarcus is not a max player, and you can get superstar without paying the max.
