Carmelo Anthony

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
People in Chicago are convinced he is coming here. Fans, media and players.

We'll see though. The possibility of him joining LeBron in Cleveland seem really slim to me.

Melo is a perfect fit in Chicago. They have a defensive scheme to cover up his warts and he'll provide a much needed scoring punch.

LeBron doesn't need another star player here. He needs Cleveland's young players to play to their potential and for the FO to then bring in quality role players to solidify the team. There's plenty of talent to win and win big, especially with the addition of #1. While some people dream about Melo and LBJ here, I really don't think that is necessary. Maybe I'm in the minority on that.

so is "here" Cleveland or Chicago

I agree.....

MoFlo, I love you man, but let's not start out the free agency season with the purist form of Melohate.

I think the guy is an absolute baller, he's not a bad defender anymore, and he's surely got to be hungry for a title. If he would agree to move to Cleveland over New York and Los Angeles (think about that), then that tells you exactly where his head is at.

Point being, if he's willing to sign here, you sign him. But in order to get that converation started, we gotta start talking with him and New York (who we don't need at all).

If we can show Melo and LeBron a path for them to get max money and play alongside Kyrie/Dion/Wiggins, the only thing that would hold us back would be us being "Cleveland." I don't think that'll be a major factor for Melo, whereas with Love it probably will be and we'd never know because he's not signing an extension no matter what.

Chicago.

My only point is that we are one of only two teams that can sign both LeBron and Melo, and we're the only team in the league that can sign both outright to reasonable contracts (and still compete).

The only team in the same position as us in 2010 was Miami. Pretty sure Chris Grant knew this would be happening.

The latter. I live in Chicago and the sports talk is insufferable.

It almost as bad as the Miami HESPN.

Connected people in Chicago are saying this is the worst kept secret in the league.

I guess we are about to find out.

It won't happen, but god it would be awesome. I hope at the very least he has a sit down to talk to Griff to hear him out. What is the harm in that right.

I will agree that Melo has improved defensively, but does he do anything whatsoever off the ball?

We were pulling our hair out at Kyrie & Dion doing too much dribbling & trying to find a balance, I just cringe of the thought of adding Melo to that mix.

If he can change his off the ball game, I'd be 100% on board, but obviously we won't know that until the games are played.

Don't get me wrong, Melo is a Top 2 scorer in the game and can beat you in so many ways, but that's really all he can do offensively and takes a lot of shots to boot.. it'd take some doing getting things adjusted..

I will say this gouri, you know my stance on Melo & have known for a while :chuckles:, but I'm more for this signing now that Blatt is on board than I was before...

Only difference is we don't have to purge our entire team to make it happen because of the guys we have on rookie deals. We can put together a very competent bench, as well as have three all stars.

Considering it would take us an immense amount if trading out contracts for nothing in return your statement above seems to be a little off. There are several other organizations that could attempt to do the same amount of shuffling to create the same room. We would have to pare down to 23-25 million in contracts to create the room necessary unless you believe those two are going to take large pay cuts.

I cant even put in words what would happen if we not only got lebron but carmelo too...its unimaginable for me

This is gonna be an insane end to june amd start of july

I'm not a fan of Melo's game and it bores me to death. With the hiring of Blatt, I feel the Cavs are going to try to lean more Spurs than anything else and I don't think Melo even comes close to that style of ball. Can you even remold Melo at this point in his career?

I'm sure like Popovich, Blatt would tell you he wants players that are over themselves. I like the direction the team is headed and I don't believe Melo is the guy to lead a bunch of youngsters into the future.

We have $37 million in guaranteed contracts (counting Delly's deal)... the cap will be ~$63 million. The #1 pick will cost us another $5ish million. We'll have enough to offer LeBron a max deal. We would have to do a sign and trade for Melo, or bribe a team or two to take on a lot of salary.

I will agree that Melo has improved defensively, but does he do anything whatsoever off the ball?

If you're including rebounding as playing off the ball then absolutely. Melo is an elite rebounder for a tweener.

He also played somewhat off the ball in Denver, but not as much in New York because their PPP drops through the floor when he plays off the ball. It also wasn't their team design; they wanted the ball in Melo's hands. This isn't a LeBron like situation where he is demanding the ball, he's simply forced to due to a lack of help.

But he is one of the most versatile scorers in the NBA. In fact, I think he is the most versatile scorer in the NBA. He scores 20% of his points in the post, 15% in PnR, he can shoot from anywhere, he's good in transition, isolation, sets, cuts... I mean.. what exactly more could you ask for in a player?

We were pulling our hair out at Kyrie & Dion doing too much dribbling & trying to find a balance, I just cringe of the thought of adding Melo to that mix.

Difference is both of those players are fighting over the point responsibilities. You've got Kyrie tuning out Dion due to a lack of faith in his teammate. Can he really do the same thing to Melo? Melo is just as good, if not a better, scorer as Kyrie. Melo would also immediately pull Kyrie to the side, on national television, and put him in check. That's something we could definitely use.

Besides, Melo is a good spot up shooter, creates space, and can play in the post. He's actually a perfect compliment to a slashing guard like Kyrie because he can also initiate the strong side offense in a Princeton style set (assuming ever got a center), opening up the lane for Kyrie when the ball swings back to him.

If he can change his off the ball game, I'd be 100% on board, but obviously we won't know that until the games are played.

Melo isn't bad off the ball. He doesn't play off the ball because there is no one other scoring threat on the floor besides him. Thus his usage is artificially high.

Don't get me wrong, Melo is a Top 2 scorer in the game and can beat you in so many ways, but that's really all he can do offensively and takes a lot of shots to boot.. it'd take some doing getting things adjusted..

He's not inefficient anymore (.561 TS / .501 eFG, better than anyone on our team), so he doesn't really take "a lot of shots." He is scoring at a higher efficiency than the entire team surrounding him.

I will say this gouri, you know my stance on Melo & have known for a while :chuckles:, but I'm more for this signing now that Blatt is on board than I was before...

Yeah, agreed.. Blatt would surely keep things in check. But I also think Melo would help our locker room problems rather than hurt them as we'd have a clear cut best player, without Dion and Irving jockeying for position. Besides if Melo and LeBron are both on the team, we'd be the favorites for the title for the next several years.

It's really a can't lose situation.
