Hue Jackson and Todd Haley Fired

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Browns have publicly said they don't view him as a "top 20 NFL QB". Are you telling me you think they would have taken him given that evaluation if not for signing RG3?

As AZ just said, they didn't take RG3 over Wentz, but their evaluation of Wentz looks pretty stupid right now.
Hue Jackson (in conjunction with the front office) believed that RG3 had a better chance of being a top 20 quarterback than Carson Wentz. That evaluation frightens me a a Browns fan.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts:

I agree. Wentz has egg on their faces- for now. And trust me, I'm not going easy on these guys, but expecting them to a bat a thousand is just stupid. It just so happens that their first major mistake cost us a possible franchise QB...which doesn't look good. But these dudes need to be given 4-5 years. No way around it. Unless this shit turns into a total disaster by the end of year two like the last regime did and you just have to blow it up (with scandals as well as terrible on field performance), but I don't think that's going to happen.

It stings. But we need to ride this out. Douches like Goldhammer calling for people to be fired and shit is exactly how we ended up on this carousel in the first place. Most of us on this forum are smart enough to realize this, I'd hope the Haslams are too.

I completely agree with your sentiments here. In no way, should Hue Jackson be canned over the next two seasons regardless of the circumstances. However, franchise quarterbacks are an extremely rare breed, and passing on one while in need for it can haunt your franchise for quite awhile.

Yeah, but you have to be damn certain that Wentz won't be a top 20 quarterback if you're going to pass on him. Well, that was their evaluation, and it doesn't look too astute so far.

I agree, I was just saying that was their logic behind the decision. Looks to have been wrong, but its probably a bit too early to tell.

Not true. RG3 and Wentz had nothing to do with one another.

They may not have thought Wentz would be a top 20 QB, but it didn't boil down to 1 or the other. If RG3 wouldn't have signed, we still make that trade and Wentz still wouldn't be here

This just isn't at all true.

Your act of jumping on the throats of anyone who dares to criticize the Browns is getting stale. You were a big advocate of Wentz leading up to the draft, yet it's a crime to rip them for passing on the kid in your book.

No, I think it's just incredibly dumb to say they chose RGIII, who is essentially on a one year deal, over Carson Wentz.

They just chose not to take Wentz, RGIII should not have factored into this equation at all, and I'm certain he didn't.

Because they didn't like Wentz enough to select him. That has literally nothing to do with them signing RG3..
So, having RG3 on the roster had no impact on whether or not to draft Wentz. That's fine if that is in fact the case. You can't deny that Hue felt better about RG3 as a QB in the NFL than Wentz.

Of course you can deny that, you're just going out of your way not to see the obvious here.

RGIII was signed for 2 years and $15m, why are we pretending he's an impediment to drafting a future QB?

They didn't like Wentz, I don't know why you're not just sticking with that and falsely asserting the stopgap deal for RGIII was the reason.

It doesn't make any sense.

Because everything I've read indicates that Hue didn't view RG3 as a pure stop gap and instead believed that he could help Griffin revive his career into a viable starting quarterback. This wasn't a Trent Dilfer or Jake Delhomme type move. Yes, they didn't sign him to a massive contract, but Hue felt that RG3 could very well be his answer at the position with proper coaching and good health.

The same goal could be said for any position on this team, but if they believed Wentz was that good they would have drafted him.

It has nothing to do with RGIII.

Three games in and we're already proclaiming whether Wentz was a hit or miss...

Hey, the kid is playing outstanding football at the moment. But can we get a little more sample size than this? This is the NFL, you can see a lot abnormal stuff within a small frame of football games.

Mike Sanchez at one point looked like a sure fire miss. How did that play out in the end?

Hell, RG3 was rookie of the year. He ended up here. That didn't happen from being good.

I love how we're always looking at the glass half empty approach. :chuckle:
