Hue Jackson and Todd Haley Fired

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Is this the Carson Wentz thread?

Props to Hue for an outstanding gameplan today, he coaxed everything out of Terrelle Pryor a coach could and made Cody Kessler look like a decent QB.

If Austin Pasztor hadn't laid money on the Dolphins to cover we could have won this game.

Edit: 5 year old played with my phone with half a wrotten post... such is parenthood...

Because everything I've read indicates that Hue didn't view RG3 as a pure stop gap and instead believed that he could help Griffin revive his career into a viable starting quarterback. This wasn't a Trent Dilfer or Jake Delhomme type move. Yes, they didn't sign him to a massive contract, but Hue felt that RG3 could very well be his answer at the position with proper coaching and good health.

There's articles worth reading from good journalists, and then there's the people who have to fill empty airspace and aren't good at being responsible jounalists... stop reading the empty drivel.

RG3 was a low risk, Bridge type move for the Browns. If he was going to revive his career and stay healthy, it would have been a major bonus.

But the Browns through the entire process wanted Goff. And were prepared to take him if he was there. So its not "they wanted RG3 instead of Wentz." They just flat out missed, like a lot of people did.

But they have hit on Coleman. And several others from this class. Has to count for something. I dont know if they were willing to take the risky prospect of Wentz, who was a major risk, rather than punt on the season and rebuild the rest of the team.

That's heartwarming, but essentially choosing RG3 over Wentz looks like an awful decision as early as it may be.

Thats like explaining how gravity works by saying 1+1 =2.

We picked multiple first rounders including Corey Coleman, Shon C oleman and Shoebert.

2 of the 3 have looked really good and we still have a 1st next year and a 2nd next year to go.

RG3 was a free agent and not expected to be the long term answer but a stop gap answer.

But go on over simplifying on how to fix the Browns. For the first time in a long time I see allot of positive signs from multiple young players. We might be bad, but it looks like we have some direction.

Three games in and we're already proclaiming whether Wentz was a hit or miss...

Hey, the kid is playing outstanding football at the moment. But can we get a little more sample size than this? This is the NFL, you can see a lot abnormal stuff within a small frame of football games.

Mike Sanchez at one point looked like a sure fire miss. How did that play out in the end?

Hell, RG3 was rookie of the year. He ended up here. That didn't happen from being good.

I love how we're always looking at the glass half empty approach. :chuckle:

Again, it's beyond silly to ask people to wait 3 years to talk about Wentz. They're gonna talk about how he's playing right now- which is damn good especially for a rookie.

I completely agree with your sentiments here. In no way, should Hue Jackson be canned over the next two seasons regardless of the circumstances. However, franchise quarterbacks are an extremely rare breed, and passing on one while in need for it can haunt your franchise for quite awhile.

Hue Jackson is not the President or make the drafting decisions, he has some imput I am sure, but he is not out their scouting these players.

It might be they liked Wentz but felt he wouldnt succeed here till we got more weapons and a line to protect him,

We used our first on a weaon and the 3rd we got from them on a lineman. We will see how this ends up after 3 or 4 years, not after week 3 or 4 of the first year.

Just a reminder of how much the front office turned the #2 pick into from a ESPN article

"All told, the Browns gave up a first, fourth and fifth-round pick this year and a fourth-round pick in 2017.

With the picks they acquired, the Browns gained:

A swap of seventh-round picks on Day 3 led to the team acquiring cornerback Jamar Taylor from Miami.

They also acquired the Eagles' first-round pick in 2017, the Titans' second-round pick in 2017 and the Eagles' second-round pick in 2018."

And it's silly to talk about it. This feels like Cleveland Sports Radio kind of talk. We only do it because we're Brown fans and always expect the worst.

It kinda gets old and silly. And I've been as big of a Browns downer as anyone.

Maybe he'll be great. But to use 3 games and go "ha, told ya, should have drafted him" is beyond silly.

Either you've been watching football for just 2 years, or you're just automatically planning for the worst to happen.

Fuck it, he's not a Brown. Done with. All we can do is focus on what we got, and what we can do going forward.

At least there's been shown some glimmer of possible hope going forward. Not a lot, but hey, I'll take any good at this point given what I've seen over the years. Especially the last few.

The most important take away right now is that Hue looks to have a clue, and players might actually become good under him.

Think there are way too many people in this thread acting like evaluating QB's like Wentz is simple. The Browns played the percentages and I think a lot of you guys need to be a little easier on the FO.

I thought Wentz COULD be good but honestly, I had absolutely NO clue, NONE, he had anything in him like the last 3 weeks as a rookie. I think anyone who says they did is talking out of their ass.

Given how often QB's bust, if your guy (Goff) isn't there and you are faced with taking a pile of draft assets or drafting a QB the organization isn't 100% behind, you take the assets and live with the results.

Ultimately, we won't know if that was the right move until we see what Kessler does and additionally how the Browns spend that draft capital.

Does is look bad now? For some, I'm sure but we haven't spent what, 50% of that draft capital yet? So there's still the possibility that trading Wentz still nets out as positive. Only time will tell.

How is it silly to talk about the quarterback this FO passed on lighting it up? I mean, acting like it's a done deal is not smart but I don't see why it isn't a valid discussion.

Because three games doesn't tell ya much? :chuckle: There's an endless list of ass QBs that looked like world beaters at one point in this league in more games than that.

It's valid, however when equating the stopgap to the prize of the Wentz trade is your reason... it's valid to go on for a full page calling kevalier's reasoning asinine.

The front office saw a big drop off from Goff to Wentz. That may prove to be a mistake, but considering the assets they got in return, it's not a franchise crippling move.

Trading Wentz straight up for RG3 would have been franchise-crippling. So please never say that happened. It makes us all look as dumb as a Cleveland radio personality making $35,000 a year.

3 games don't tell you much....okay... Does he look like he can play in the NFL right now?

People want to say Coleman is young and promising after one good game. Wentz has had 3 and it's too early to say anything about him...mmkay, I don't disagree, but I will say the guy looks like an NFL quarterback. Absolutely does, and that isn't just eyeing box scores. I'll leave it at that because no, I don't want to be a downer and bitch about the Browns, I want to actually believe in something. And I do. But I'm not gonna shoot down anyone that wants to complain about the Wentz move. It looks bad, it really does.

I know, I'm not commenting at all on that discussion. I'm not of the belief that RG3 and Kessler can be used as "strikes" against Hue if they don't work out. They were darts thrown at the wall, everybody should know that.

Doesn't take a genius to realize what Wentz has the potential to be.

If you need to wait a few more games, that's your perogative I suppose.

Kid is a baller.
