For starters we need a true power bat that isn't an out machine like nap or santana.
Santana was our best hitter this season...
They blew an all time comeback.
They blew a 3-1 lead.
These guys will not want to go through 162. It's got to be crushing and soul sucking.
They experienced Game 7 of the World freaking Series in their first playoff run and you don't think they'll have the willpower and fight to get back there? That instead they'll just wilt, roll over, and die?
They're literally already talking about wanting to come back in March, a half hour after losing Game 7. This team is hungry.
There is no guarantee that the Indians will be good next year.
We got career years from Ramirez and Napoli. Hopefully Ramirez is for real, but we've seen enough cases where they aren't over the years. Napoli showed his true colors in the playoffs.
Chisenhall had a good year, but he's never put two in a row together. Davis is 35. Who knows what he'll give you next year. We could be missing a lot of the offense we got this season.
The pitching should be solid, but bullpens can be inconsistent from year to year.
If Ramirez is real and Chisenhall is solid and Naquin and Lindor get better and you get the same production out of 1B (whether it's Napoli or someone else) and Brantley is healthy, then they should be good. But that's a lot of ifs, and you know K.C. will be good again and the Tigers and White Sox will throw a bunch of money around in the off season.
You concentrate on the offense yet only say the pitching (a pitching staff that was historically good) "should be solid".
Funny how you don't mention we got to the World Series without our #2 and #3 SP and with our offense struggling for the majority of it. Or any of the stuff that went wrong this season, like Gomes/Perez being uncharacteristically bad at the plate, Brantley being out practically the entire season, us having to reshuffle our entire OF plan throughout the season.
Next season, we'll have our pitching staff back, a full season of J-Ram as the everyday 3B, improvement from Gomes/Perez, Brantley back, and a very good, young core locked up for years.
There is literally no reason to think this team isn't set up to compete for years to come.
Good, let the Tigers keep throwing away money on aging players.
That's the team that's not a guarantee to be good again next season in this division. They're in terrible shape and are only aging more & more.
To say "you know KC will be good again" while saying "there's no guarantee the Indians will be good next season" is, quite frankly, ridiculous.
