Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lost in the Kardashian furor is the fact that TT is blocking shots at the best rate of his career. I asked him about it, if there was any off-season work specific to this, and he said no, just jumping and his timing is really good early this season.
I remember him saying on media day (I think) that we watched a ton of tape to see how there were time he needed to protect the rim instead of position for the rebound. Might also explain why Kevin rebounds are so high

1st quarter was so unlike the Cavs. They contested shots at the rim, got blocks, Tristan was everywhere.
What a game by Tristan, props.

For everyone who says Tristan can't handle the stronger centers, he was Drummond's father last night, and I was really impressed. Obviously Andre isn't the post-up threat a guy like Boogie is, but it gives me faith that TT can handle Dwight in the playoffs, which is comforting. Tristan's biggest weakness is his rim protection off drives, though, and without Reggie Jackson the Pistons didn't really test that.

Nonetheless, great game by TT, I was very impressed.

I watched the game this morning. One thing that stood out was TT getting planned plays in the offense early. It looked to me like Kyrie had planned to go baseline a few times looking to pass not score, which drew Thompson's man. After a lot of games where he only had two or three attempts from the floor, a few early finishing opportunities really energized his floor game on both ends. The Cavs need more of that.

Tristan sometimes gets forgotten about in the offense. When they go back and watch games like Indiana on tape they remember Tristan is there and make an effort to get him the ball more and Tristan usually performs.

Also from the start of the season Lue's focus has been on the big three and lineup combinations.

last season Thompson had 3 or more blocks in a game 3 times. this season he has 4 games of 3 or more blocks already.

Tristan should be getting about 5-8 shots a game out of the offense. more if he is drawing fouls

In the two losses he took two shots total.

Now you don't feature Thompson in the offense but if you have Thompson open get him the ball and put pressure on the double teams.

It was always strange to me that a guy who came into the league with a rep as a pretty good shotblocking center became such a non-factor once he got into the league. Best I could come up with was that weakside rotations were always his weak point on defense, and he never really put himself in position to block a lot of shots. It used to drive me crazy how he'd have his head turned towards his man while guards could just drive it right to the rim behind him.

Seems like he's operating as a weakside defender at a much higher level than ever before. His BLK% is at a career high 4.6% (previous was 3.3% in his rookie year before going downhill from there), he seems to be always in proper position when the initial man gets beat, and his overall defense at the rim is much better:

Tristan is still evolving as a defender. Ive always felt that his fg allowed percentage was a bit higher than it should be because he is fast enough to contest some shots that he was out of position for .

Now Tristan seems more confident on when to leave his man and when not to.

Cavs regardless of coach have always had Tristan focus on defensive fundamentals and rebounding over blocking. now he has reached a comfort zone where his natural shot blocking abilities are coming through.

I think as long as the backcourt plays at least adequate defense the shot blocking trend will continue.

Getting Thompson involved does make you respect him, making it easier to drive.

Can't leave a guy if he scores the ball.

I thinkgamw night change is TT not being obsessed by rebounding numbers. he seems more ready to move to protect the rim now and let bron and kev clean up the weak side

TT is just about to start hitting his absolutely prime like Kyrie. They're both still getting better every year and it's showing up in every part of their games right now. It takes awhile for a big to truly be a day in and day out difference maker on the defensive end and anchor a defense. It also takes growth and effort from his teammates to help him not look bad. All of that is starting to come together for Tristan.

He is capable of all-nba defensive team honors . He is that good and versatile.

It's twice as hard doing that when you are undersized at 6'7.5-8 playing Center..

I've always thought 6'10 was BS. Same for love. Those guys look barely taller than Lebron.

TT is 6'7.5 without shoes and 6'8.75 with shoes. and Kevin Love is 6'7.75 without shoes and 6'9.5 with shoes so he was wearing high heels at the combine.
Both of them are as tall as Lebron.
I think if Love and TT are able to play the Center I have no doubt Lebron would be a pretty good one aswell.
