2017 MLB Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
1st big domino to fall. Cespedes re-signing with the Mets. 4 years, 110 million.

Jon Jay to the Cubs. 1 year, 8 million.

Probably seen the last of Dexter Fowler in a Cubs uniform.

Ken Rosenthal today said, of all the big names being made "available" for trade, Andrew McCutchen is the most likely one to be moved.

Elsewhere:

Matt Joyce signed with the A's, 2 years 11 million.

Cardinals will not be pursuing Justin Turner.

Dodgers are being asked to trim their payroll a whole bunch, which may cost them Turner and/or Kenley Jansen, may force them to back load contracts, and may force them into the trade market for lower salary hit replacements.

With the re-signing of Cespedes, the Mets are looking to trade Jay Bruce. Toronto appears to be the team to watch with that one.

Red Sox seem to be out on Edwin Encarnacion. Appears to be the Jays and Astros in on him.

Encarnacion makes that Astros lineup look ridiculous. They need all of the pitching, but it looks great offensively.

C - McCann / Gattis
DH - Gattis / McCann
1B - Encarnacion / McCann
2B - Altuve
SS - Correa
3B - Bregman
OF - Springer
OF - Reddick
OF - Aoki / Teo Hernandez / Guerriel

Their defense would be pretty terrible...like, worst in the league terrible.

Not sure I'd agree with that. Though the biggest concern is obviously catching.

EE, Altuve, Correa are probably league average. The latter two were a bit below last season.

Bregman is a stud at 3B.

Springer and Reddick are average or above.

I don't know. They would be replacing 3 of their best defenders from last season (Rasmus, Castro, Marisnick) with downgrades in the form of Aoki and McCann, while moving Springer out of RF to CF in favor of Reddick, which is also a downgrade because I think Springer is the better RF right now. Then you also have the question of how Springer takes to playing CF.

I also think the Marwin Gonzalez/Valbuena platoon at 1B they had going towards the end of the year was/is better than Edwin moving forward.

Considering they have a pitching staff right now that is constructed to force guys to put the ball in play, I'd be a bit worried about the defense.

Still think switching Bregman and Correa makes a ton of sense, but Correa will never do it...

Just to add to this, for people who haven't been following this closely.

2 of the more interesting things supposedly on the table/being discussed for the new CBA:

Increase in active roster size from 25 to 26

Removal of draft picks attached to declined qualifying offers in a trade for an International prospect draft

Is a salary cap and or floor being thrown around?
