What is so on-point about this is that it doesn't just apply to comments/tweets/statements that can be misinterpreted, but also to news stories in general. The "bottom-up" solution to fake news is the only one that doesn't present an unacceptable risk of suppressing free speech/press. A good, healthy skepticism of the things we read and hear is the best way to push back against the risks of disinformation, or even honest misinterpretation.

Whoa, Tex. I wasn't even aware of the tweet until boobie posted it here and said it was racist. I just responded to his comment.

And I'd point out that unless boobie actually follows Senator Cotton on Twitter (which I suspect is unlikely), he saw that tweet only after some web article or someone in social media started the racist ball rolling. He didn't start it -- our little corner of RCF is just one of the little metastatic corners where it appeared.

That was kind of my entire point.
 
If we go back to this interview from a few days ago, it appears that nearly all of what KellyAnne said turned out to be false.

Not sure if she's lying or ignorant of the situation, or which one is worse.

No, I'm perfectly aware of the reality.

Honestly, the only time I hear the "not my president" stuff is in the memes and Facebook nonsense perpetuating my news feed through conservative eyes.

We're about to enter into four years of consistent scandal and obvious disregard for the office he holds.

I hope you're prepared for that reality.
