I wonder if people are underrating Shump. He's a 40% three point shooter (lately at least) who can defend on the perimeter with both quick feet and some size (6'5, 220). You can't have enough of that kind of flexible wing in today's NBA it seems to me. It's true he played poorly on offense against GS last year and was sort of OK/mediocre on defense, but he played good defense in 2015 against the Warriors so he does have the ability.

I really like Ricky Rubio and I think all things considered he would be more valuable for us than Shump, but you toss in the other players and maybe it is a lateral move.

Don't get me wrong, I think Shump is great.

I just think Rubio has a bit higher ceiling, and potentially more market-value. I also think Rubio/Muhammad/Frye/Osman and our 2021 first is a solid package in a 3-way trade (cough).

Oh goody, my turn to use multi-quotes :D

So what's the problem?

On our team? Maybe in the regular season, but not in the playoffs and certainly not against Golden State. Rubio is an abysmal shooter. Golden State would salivate with Rubio on the floor by ignoring him entirely and doubling elsewhere. Any lineup that includes Rubio + TT is an offensive catastrophe, and TT will be getting A LOT of minutes against the Warriors.

potentially more market-value.
You think a non-shooting PG is coveted more than a 40% 3-point wing with a proclivity for defense and on a cap-friendly deal in today's market???

Solid package for fantasy maybe. Or were we not discussing trades predicated on real-life probabilities?

Look, I agree with most of what you wrote, for the most part.

But, I take offense to the final blow........look what just happened with Boogie. I don't think it's at all fantasy to believe that package would be more than enough for Melo at face value.

No.

I've not argued that we'd use Rubio against Golden State. I'm talking about Rubio as purely a trade asset.

This is a non sequitur since I'm not arguing we'd use Rubio against Golden State, just as I'm not arguing we would use Frye.

Shump is being dangled and will likely not net much of a return; again. Neither of these players has a great market value. Shump's defensive ability does not serve us well against Golden State as he gets torched when he's on the floor in his limited 18 minutes. He can't defend Curry any better than Irving can, which makes his floor presence less than useful since he can't guard any of their forwards.

Really have no idea what it is you're talking about. Smfh; I'm talking about trades that are being reported and discussed continually in the news while we sit literally two days prior to the fucking deadline.

Give me a fucking break.

Yea I get you're joking but his post is a bit absurd.

This isn't March, it's Tuesday, Feb. 21st; the trade deadline is Thursday. To suggest we shouldn't talk about trades is pretty, well.. ridiculous..

Shump for Rubio+Muhammad is being and has been discussed for weeks. Should we not discuss the merits of this trade?

Like I said, give me a break...

Guys Rubio is on a three year deal. He can help us against any team and he becomes our best trade asset if we acquire him. We could flip Rubio in the summer for multiple players if needed. He's not old and is in the top half of PG's in the league. He has value.

So JMoney hates Melo and Rubio?

Seems like he fails to understand the intricacies of the trade deadline around RCF...

That, or he just doesn't know how to have fun with the trade deadline.

Being a buzzkill in the Melo Safari thread, being a buzzkill about actual rumored trade ideas 48 hours before the deadline, shitting on posters who enjoy talking about hypothetical trades that are being mentioned to us through the media, again, 48 hours before the trade deadline...

I just want to hear any legitimate rumblings at this point. I don't even care if it hardly mentions us. Must...quench...trade..deadline...thirst.

I see AmicoPoops is at it again.

Last 2 tweets were Cavs

I hate to do this but his second tweet actually is true. So far, of the upper tier playoff teams, the Cavs have made the most impactful trade(Korver)

We may strike a deal in the next 48 hours but we're just as likely to hold out and see what the buyout market looks like or roll the dice on Chalmers/Lance/Cole
