LeBron James

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It is, though I believe he was being facetious. That graphic just reinforces the fact that he is the real MVP.

I think the rebounding has most to do with Love being out.

Was gonna say that. Sad truth is we can't win most games without LBJ hitting the boards on defense at this point. And that's definitely a draining activity. Hopefully it doesn't catch up. But having said that I'm not too worried. GSW has way more problems than we do right now.

To add on to what @Heej said about Harden being a better driver, Harden is much better at changing speeds and handling the ball. He's very deceptive, and it's part of the reason he lulls guys into fouls. LeBron just doesn't have that change of pace, nor the handling ability required to shake guys in tight spaces. He really has to get a step on the defender, then use his strength to power through any contact. A lot of times, he's able to do that.

This is true in some ways but it seems incomplete - I think you have to add to this that Lebron is extremely crafty around the basket in terms of how he stretches himself out to make layups, and sneaks around people to reach the backboard. Earlier in his career he was either dunking or elevating and floating in an almost Jordanesque way to make these interior shots. But as his athleticism has declined a bit and he is less aerial, his technique around the basket has improved enormously in terms of making layups and little bank shots from close to the basket. He has totally mastered the use of his off hand in making layups, he has all kinds of spin moves, he has a sort of shoulder dip into the defender to get space for the layup (linked a video below describing that move), he is phenomenally accurate at laying it in when he is moving at high speed toward the basket, etc. Concretely, he is shooting a percentage from 0-3 feet that is very close to his career high (he is at 77.5% this year from 3 feet and in), and his 0-3 feet percentage is higher than it was early in his career when he was dunking all the time. I would bet Lebron has one of the highest shooting percentages in the league on contested layups. (Of course Kyrie is also tremendous at this, I wonder sometimes if LBJ is learning some tricks from him too).

With that said, I agree that Harden has a better handle and is better at changing speeds, and that makes him a more effective penetrator in the half court. But Lebron is tremendously effective once he does get close to the basket, more so than Harden -- compare LBJ's shooting percentage from 0-3 of 77.5% to Harden's percentage this year of 69%. (Although foul shots might even this out some, not sure how those are handled in the stats).

Here is the video of that shoulder dip move:

Yeah there's no way his average drops below 25, he's at 25.9 now and he's just getting into playoff mode.

This stage of the season is a double edged sword, there'll either be close games which increase his minutes but maintain his stats, or blowouts which allow him to rest, but his stats will be hindered. But with the way he's played all season my guess is he'll average over 26ppg

It's definitely not likely but if he puts together a few games like this with low scoring it will start to be possible. He needs to average 21.2ppg from here on out, which I agree is very likely. But, two more games of 16 would bring him down to 25.6, so I'm just saying he's not completely cemented it yet.

Isn't that captured in the true shooting percentage?

It is, I just thought it was funny that is was left off and am too lazy to calculate it while at work.

Its almost like LeBron is giving a last ditch effort to average a triple double as well :chuckle:

I don't know where this rebounding has come from. Usually waits till the playoffs.
He would have to average ridiculous stats to close out the season.

6 turnovers today. However, I don't think 3 of them were his fault.

Free throw...free throws...free throws...free throws.

He's gotta be better in the playoffs. Otherwise he'll settle for long jumpers instead of driving late in games.

Outside of free throws and turnovers he's playing the best regular season ball since coming back.

So LeBron and some role players rolled the Jazz in the 4th? Nothing new here--just the best player in the universe doing his thing (except for those goddamn FTs).

The depth allowed James to only play 26 minutes through three quarters so he could go all out in the fourth which meant defense, grabbing defensive rebounds and then going the length of the floor on crucial possessions as he has time and time before.

Frye/LeBron/Jefferson/JR/Dwill. With Love back, Derrick Williams is out of the rotation. I'd be surprised if JR isn't inserted into the starting lineup soon because teams are going to dare Shump to shoot as they did tonight. On the other hand, JR as part of the second unit is a killer. Might even see a Frye/LBJ/Jefferson/Korver/JR lineup or Frye/LBJ/Korver/JR/DWill lineup.

In any case, as long as 23 is in the lineup, the team can win any game. Amazing.

Aren't the turnovers still better ratio-wise than his previous return seasons? SOMEONE WHO DOES THE NUMBERS TELL ME IF I'M FULL OF SHIT.

The MVP race is quite close if you look at the numbers and the projected votes so far. LeBron has a legit shot STILL if he go insane while carrying the Cavs through a big win-streak. As things stand I just don't think the team's record justifies the trophy even though he has MVP numbers.
