2016 BOLD PREDICTIONS

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Last 3 years (since Bauer joined the rotation):

Bauer
519 IP
4.34 ERA
4.11 FIP
5.9 fWAR

Tomlin
343.2 IP
4.24 ERA
4.53 FIP
2.6 fWAR

Haha, neither of these guys are, nor ever will be, anything more than a #3 in a rotation.
It's like you're arguing which banana has more black on it. Either one is just here until we get one better.

Bauer at least has the stuff to improve his position. I'll gladly hitch my wagon to his in the coming years.

But one was drafted #3 overall was considered one of the best prospects in baseball and has every tool you could ever ask for

and is still just mediocre because he always wants to do everything his way

TIL starters who can post a 3 WAR season are "mediocre"...

Going strictly by fWAR, Bauer was the 42nd best starter last year. It's not a perfect measure, but it means that he rated out as a middle of the road #2 starter.

We're very lucky to have him as our 4/5.

EDIT:
Fangraphs' default setting only looks at qualified pitchers. I took that off, and he moved to tied for 52nd among starters.

Still, a low-end #2, or high-end #3 as our 4/5 is something we should be happy to have.

People's inability to look beyond their own perception of a player or political figure will never cease to amaze.

41st among qualified starters in FIP last season too. If you look at his stats and see "mediocre", its because you are being spoiled by the absurdness that is our top 3 of Kluber, Carrasco, and Salazar, and the stats they are able to put up.

Figured he'd be around there in FIP/xFIP. His ERA+ was above average as well last year.

Yup...fWAR uses FIP in their WAR calculation for pitchers, so it's not surprising to see him in a similar range for Fangraphs in both stats.

Let's also not act like we are talking about a finished product here. Dudes only 26, and is coming off easily his best season as a pro...literally everyone in this section should be hoping he takes it to another level this season...

If not, why are you even rooting for the Indians?

That's all it ever is with Bauer. Potential. Hope for the future. Maybe he puts it all together.

You can be an Indians fan and not believe in Bauer. I am and don't.

I'm an Indians fan who hates Michael Martinez...

Doesn't mean I'm rooting for the guy to fail just because I don't like him.

And take the disagree for being a douche again.

It really seems like we're just waiting for everything to click with him.

He had a career best BB%, FIP, xFIP, and fWAR last year, but a career worst K/9, LOB%, and a BABIP that jumped 16 points from the previous year.

It'd be really great if he could maintain, or even improve upon his career-best BB% while getting his K/9 to return to where it was.

Sounds a lot like back when people were wondering when the Carlos Carrasco experiment was going to end.

He's his own worst enemy, IMO.

My hope is, he eventually learns that less is more before he is too old. I keep thinking one of these off seasons he's not going to worry about learning a 12th pitch, but instead improve upon the ones he already throws.

Not this year though...this year he had to learn how to throw a splitter...

He just needs to get out of his own way sometimes. But any progression up is a good thing from a young pitcher.

I'm not rooting for Bauer to fail. I hope he wins 32 games this year.

But I don't expect it and I certainly don't like his personality and think he's a douche.

But he's an Indian. So he is our douche.
