DeAndre Liggins Waived

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It still completely baffles me and I cannot find one positive unless Liggins did something really bad that we do not know about.

Liggins was awful at dribbling up the floor and trying to initiate the offense. At least Jones won't even try to do that. Does that count as a plus?

Agreed on the stronger contributions Liggins could make on the defensive end. Whole thing is confusing at best.

Without knowing any potential "behind the shadows" story, the only reason this makes sense to me is to free up a roster spot for next season.

Because for this playoff run alone, this move just makes zero sense.

I'm still shocked they cut liggins for d jones no disrespect to him but liggins was playing well in the starting lineup and just fell out of the rotation without explanation and I'm not sure d jones would've been able to do what liggins was doing

My thing with this is that Liggins can do the exact same thing, has been playing all season, and is an infinitely better defender than Dahntay was, even in his prime. Plus we'd have control over him next season.
I agree, minus the prime thing Dahntay was a beast on Indiana defensively. Though Dahntay had proven himself in the playoffs and Liggins hasn't. Good point about control though. But then again hell probably be available this summer if we want him back.

Liggins is legitimately capable of coming in and stopping guys like Kyle Lowry or John Wall for 4-6 minute spurts, something Jones simply cannot do

Agreed. Biggest issue is this imo.

plus Liggins has been playing and practicing with us all season long.

Good point.

We saw what he did to Curry on Christmas. I just do not understand bringing in Dahntay in pretty much the same role, when he's simply older and worse.
Dahntay is bigger, stronger, rebounding, interior toughness at the 3 with Bron at the 4? Experience as well. They're a bit different. Not much, I know. Liggins also pissed himself offensively on Xmas and was a team worst -9 . Wouldn't shoot, left him open all night. We came back with him benched. But still did a good job on Steph for sure.

Not like he's a fantastic locker room guy either. RJ and Channing both said he didn't get along well with guys in one of their podcasts.

Bron seems to love him. Weird. But maybe we could use someone like that instead of the buddy buddy let's all not try on D ever and never talk about it dynamic.lol.

I would have kept Liggins but I also dont that think it's that bad of a move. Maybe something did go down. It is strange timing tho.

If Dahntay Jones was able to give the Cavs the same on-court production as Liggins, he'd have been playing for us all year. That was the point made by @wuck . Whatever reasons you can give for signing Dahntay, they all beg the question of why this Liggins/Dahntay switch wasn't made much sooner.

That explanation makes no sense either because Liggins has a team option for next year. If they wanted to free up a roster spot for next season they could just decline his option and then they’d have an instant roster spot!

Maybe LeBron does, but other players like Channing have said the exact opposite.

Still basically the entire team :chuckle:

Have we even won a single game without Bron this year? Lol.

Didn't realize that. Well, shit. This is just pure stupidity, then.

Anyone could have claimed him.
Yes but given his "banishment" from the league for multiple years, his low ceiling, the waiver order, and roster composition of other teams, it was pretty likely no one before Dallas would claim him.

Not saying Dallas WANTED Liggins no matter what, but I'd be shocked if this wasn't part of the back channel conversations that took place just before Williams and Bogut were bought out/waived.

this was definitely a back channel move. Hopefully the NBA doesnt get involved.

if this was planned before how come they let him fly to Atlanta? And then only notified him the morning of the AFTERNOON game? idk sounds too conspiratorial for me

Anyone could have claimed him.

And anyone else could have released someone else if necessary to make the roster space. I doubt there's anything illegal about the Cavs saying they'll release someone given that anyone else could have claimed him.

So if this was a favor to Dallas...why not do it a month ago, and have Dahntay playing with the Cavs for a month?
