DeAndre Liggins Waived

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Even though most will say Korver wasn't a bad move, I feel like the most wouldn't say it was the right move. At neutral move is what I would call it, definitely a better fit 3 and D players could have been had.

I don't agree. Korver is just a flat out better player than PJ Tucker.

I hope you're right. I personally would take the added defense of PJ Tucker to the additional offense of Korver.

This is disappointing. I feel like Liggins gave more versatility than Jones does. I would have rather brought in Chalmers or Farmar.

I disagree for the most part. I do prefer Liggins, I think he'd be very useful versus quick guards that get rolling in the East.

But he doesn't have much of a place versus Golden State because Kyrie is playing 40+minutes, and I think our 2 guards do a fine job on Klay as it is. Curry isn't the quick, explosive type that really gives Kyrie trouble. We have a decent strategy against GS. And Liggins as an offensive liability is a big problem against them.

Dahntay is a good perimeter defender. He is strong, he has good size. He's a solid rebounder. And he has lots of playoff experience. Made key plays last year in the finals for us.

Chalmers is not ready to play this year, Achilles truly is usually a 2 year injury. If he was ready,, he would be signed already And Farmar is not an upgrade over Deron on either end of the floor even with Deron struggling.

So while I do like Liggins and he's better in a vacuum, Dahntay is a better matchup for the Warriors, since he's more of a forward nowadays, there will be more opportunity for him to play. His toughness and physicality is going to be needed against Golden State and honestly probably Toronto. I could see him getting spot minutes on DeRozan.

He's also able to play in the LBJ at the 4 lineups, and while he can't shoot the three, he can rebound and be physical. Kind of a change of pace from RJ. The Cavs obviously don't want to have to rely on Derrick Williams in big moments, which is somewhat understandable. Jones is also playable on Durant in spot minutes. He made big money over the years being trusted with guys like Bron, KD, Kobe, etc. He's like 6'6 but he's very strong and tough, a PJ Tucker type. He's not the athlete he once was and hes probably the worst shooter out of every perimeter guy in the league. He can't play 25-30m a game anymore either. He can play well in 5 minute spurts though.

Overall, I don't think this was a bad move. I think arguments for both guys are valid, but at least we have a guy that we know can give us a big play in a big moment and that's all you can ask for for the end of the bench.

Only thing I can think of is its a locker room thing. We saw how the guys responded to Dahntay at ring night. They love that guy. And if DeAndre wasn't playing, why not?

Still don't think I'm a fan of it though.

I just hope we won't need a guard to defend a PG at a high level to get out of the east. With how Shump is playing, it would be nice to have that 3rd guard if we go up against the wizards or even Toronto.

I want to believe you IBWT, but if Dahntay could provide a contending team any of what you're saying, why didn't he sign with anyone else this year, or even attempt to as far as anyone has reported? Why would he not play any kind of professional basketball at all?

He's basically walking in off the street like Sanders did. You can't try to tell me that Dahntay was staying ready all year, preparing for this to happen, when as of 2 days ago the Cavs were saying they would prefer to sign a player that had actually played this season.

we were worried about Larry Sanders who hasn't played in two years, go right up and sign a guy that hasn't played in a year.

Who can say what Dahntay Jones can provide? I'll bet Jim Brown could average 4.0 yards/rush too.

It will be interesting to see if DeAndre gets picked up by a playoff team. That can still happen, correct?

No, Liggins isn't eligible to be on another team's playoff roster. A playoff team can sign him, but it would be with the intention of controlling him through next season with his cheap contract.

I don't think so. I think he is a candidate for someone who needs to get to the salary floor and not actually pay him. Also someone might take him for the team option on his contract for next year.

Whether you agree with Jones being more valuable or not, you can't really argue that it's EXTREMELY stupid to keep Liggins all year and then sign Jones with one damn game left. If this was the plan, then Jones should've been on the team MONTHS ago, if not, from day 1, instead of Liggins.

Good to know. I had visions of him blanketing Irving in a pivotal playoff matchup. Nice to know this mistake won't come back to bite us in the ass in two ways.

Bringing in a tough, defensive minded vet that the locker room loves/respects might be one of the angles.

Liggins can play hard and defend well, but he's never gonna be able to speak up and have it resonate with the other guys.

Dahntay speaking will get the guys, particularly LeBron, to at least listen. He's always been a good vocal defensive leader.
And it's a little different than James Jones preaching D, because Dahntay can actually go out and defend somebody after speaking.

I don't hate the move. I understand it. If John Wall sends us home early going 35/12/8 because we can't stop him, or Lowry or Isiah.... Then this move may be looked at as the nail in the coffin for our season.

If we flip the switch and beat the Warriors and Dahntay Jones has 5 points and 4 rebounds and a steal and takes a charge in the third quarter of a tightly contested game 5 in Oracle....Then It may be viewed as the move that saved our season.

Dude hasn't been active in nearly a year. Honestly, what does his bring to this team that commands respect or demands playing time?

Liggins is the type of relentless, tenacious guard that takes Curry's head out of the game. He did so on Christmas, still our signature win of the season.

Cavs trying to replicate some Game 6 And-1 magic is, frankly, sad.
