I think this was a horrible move. Waive a 28 year old who is actually capable of contributing for a veteran at the end of his career who hasn't played all year. It reeks of an organizational disregard for defense which Liggins provided in spades.

How do you excuse that move? I mean.. it makes zero sense and I still can't understand why. They replaced him with someone who isn't going to sniff the court and isn't doing shitu for us next season.
Cavs are probably going to look to trade Shump in the off-season and Liggins will have been on a cheap contract for next year.

Is there some untold story here? Did Liggins personality rub Lue or LBJ the wrong way or something?

Because as a matter of pure basketball, this move doesn't make sense. I suppose it's possible that Lue, or Griffin, or perhaps even both, thought that Liggins was some kind of "threat" to Shumpert, so they got rid of Liggins as a way of showing faith in/justifying the extension of, Shumpert.

But something is just not right here.

yeah that's the big thing. Cavs could of traded Shump and had a guy on the roster who has already shown he could step in and fill that role.

Waiving Liggins creates another hole. If push comes to shove and they need someone to defend a point guard who do they turn to? If this was a move to bring in another PG or combo guard that can defend at a high level, it makes sense. Bring in another older wing doesn't. Why doesn't Griff want to fill actual holes in the roster?

My take: LeBron and Lue have both yelled at Liggins in-game for not shooting open threes enough when he's on the floor. My guess is he was in the dog-house because of it. So Griffin noticed and just freed up the roster spot.

And Griffin's choice of Jones is imo because Jones has at least some experience with the team heading into the post-season.

It seems neither LeBron nor Griffin want to place the blame where it deserves to be: Lue not doing his job. It's always the team, the energy, etc., It's never the scheme/coaching choices. Considering how late in the season it is though, i'm not sure I blame them. The train is already rolling.

Some of this still reeks to me of LBJ being deputy GM.

This move is pretty awful.

Liggins could have legit contributed if someone (Griffin) had just forced Lue's hand. Jones will play, maybe, 20 minutes in the playoffs.

Really poor personnel move.

Was just looking at some lineup analytics. I'm not the best at grasping them, but it appears that our far and away best lineup (that had LeBron in it) this season was:

Irving - Liggins - James - Love - Thompson

Glad we cut this bum. That coveted lineup of Kyrie, Dahntay, LeBron, Love, and Tristan is scaring the hell out of Golden State right now.

Oh, and he had another year of cheap team control with young legs and not many miles. Stupid fucking front office.

Literally two games going into the playoffs. Makes no sense at all. My only guess is if they cut him, then Lue doesn't have to look so stupid for continuing to play Shumpert instead.

Let's be honest. Lue was not going to use Liggins. Heck, he doesn't use Derrick Williams who is more skilled all around than Liggins.

The difference that either Liggins or Jones would/will make in the playoffs will be minimum so let's not act like we are cutting a star.

My guess is they missed Jones leadership and are hoping that will light a little fire under the team. Will it work? I don't know. Because I don't know what kind of effect Jones had on the team last year when he came in. They all seem to respect Jones a lot and like him as a teammate. Maybe Liggins wasn't liked much.

All I know is that these rotations are going to tighten up. I think there will be a lot more JR and Korver minutes. And hopefully a lot less Shump and Williams (that's been the trend of his minutes since Korver's return.)

And as far as Liggins goes. I don't feel bad for a guy who beat his girlfriend into oblivion.

If the current group of guys - LBJ, Jefferson, Jones, and the coach -- cannot provide the leadership provided by a 36 year old guy who hasn't played all year, that should set off alarm bells.

Given he has not been inked at this point as far as I can tell, Dahntay is probably not the one we waived Liggins to get.
It might be who we end up settling for if others we target pull out of negotiations.
I am also not in agreement that there is much of any chance we are resigning Varejao this season since nothing has happened yet,as I wouldn't expect much interest elsewhere and the signing would be a 5 minute ordeal ;sign here please, thanks, here is your Jersey, there is nice warm seat waiting for you between JJ & DW2.

I am more inclined to believe a name less expected by national media outlets than claims made by unnamed so called sources.

I have more faith that Griffin has not waived Liggins for virtually nothing of replacement value, like Dahntay Jones or Anderson Varejao.

You have a lot more faith than I do, because I absolutely think Griffin is going to bring in one of those two.
