2017 Browns Off Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He kind of really sucked last year.

His targets went down as Tyreke Hill established himself as the primary receiver along with Kelce. I see that he is a year older than Kenny Britt, so I'm leaning toward Maclin taking less to join a contender with a need.

maybe if this team was 10-6 I'd like to grab Maclin to round out the offense, but at this point I don't really know if we need a player like that at this point

I'm with Keys.

If we were a 9-7 team, we'd look into him because he still has plenty in the tank. However, after drafting 4 receivers last year and with us looking to "improve and compete" this year versus realistically challenging for the postseason.... I'd rather see what Louis, Higgins, Payton, and even Rannell Hall can do.

I listen to a lot of CBD, and Zegura is all over Louis. It sounds as though he's hit the JUGS machine hard this offseason and has really polished up his route running. Considering he was already a physical freak, I'm allowing myself to be cautiously optimistic on him.

Just because a player is a veteran doesn't make him a good mentor for young players.

He and Coleman are pretty similar wide outs. I think there's a lot he could learn from a guy like Maclin.

With Maclin, I don't see a need to sign another veteran WR this season when it means cutting one of our young guys we put a draft pick into. Now when we go for a playoff run and we feel the veteran is better then our young player, then yes we sign Maclin, but since this is a developmental year, we need to allow the competition to see how well these guys we drafted progress after a full year in the offensive scheme.

For me this season we don't worry about signing more veterans on big salaries, but I wouldn't be afraid to bring more guys into camp in a way who are trying to make the team. We have ten WRs in camp and likely 5 make the team and one to the practice squad. If more young/better young talent becomes available then you go get them, but right now it's about developing for the long run, not trying to win an extra game this season and not cutting young talent because of it. Patience and competition is the name of the rebuild. Now in year 3/4 of this regime when we are trying to get the wild card spot/be a playoff contender, then we look to upgrade positions since by then, we will know if they are worth keeping or not

I'm sure no one will overreact to this "news" at all. :chuckle:

I am sure the best defense with who we have will be out there. Our main sets will be 4-2-5, but with little experience and depth at DB, we may see more 4-3 sets than maybe in years past with Williams since our LBs overall are stronger than our DBs on paper. Nothing wrong with having a MLB for the 4-3 sets since we will have them lol

But Tank Carder? I mean startin ML on special teams or defense? :chuckle:

Tank Carder has been playing on goal line and short yardage sets somewhat effectively for a while now.

The main reason I want Tank Carder off the roster is because I want the Tank Era to end. It's a symbolic gesture of distain. If he's only playing short yardage and special teams, fine. Fun fact about Tank Carder: He was a professional world champion BMX racer at age 9, then quit because he wanted to pursue other team sports. I do have a soft spot for a competitor... but please end the Tank!

Happy to offer you a gentleman's bet that at least seven defensive backs will get more snaps than whoever the Browns third linebacker ends up being.
