Brantley's option is getting picked up. Bruce almost certainly gets bigger money elsewhere.
Santana is not the best first baseman on the market on any day, whether its the beginning or end of the day.
I'm not underestimating anything.
I'm saying Eric Hosmer will be the best 1B on the market.
If Santana gets a bigger contract than Hosmer, I'll let you choose my avatar for 2018. If Hosmer gets the bigger deal, I choose yours.
Deal?
I would take the deal if Hosmer wasn't 4 years younger than Santana and the teams always favor sub 30 over the 30 and over when it comes to contracts.
Going by normal stats Santana got two-three years area before his production declines while Hosmer will theoretically have close to 6-7 years.
I would take a bet on Santana over the next two-three seasons having better stats overall than Hosmer.
Hosmer is going to get a 6 year+ deal at 15+ mil a season while Santana will likely get a 3-4 year deal at 15 mil area. There isn't anyway a 31 year old will get a better deal.
So, Hosmer is the best first baseman on the market.
Good talk.
He's been a waste of money for 2 years now with year #3 looming in that direction because it's reality.
Santana, Bruce, Brantley would be my ideal order in keeping guys around. Indians have some issues regarding roster movement after this season and Brantley should be the last decision made.
In the end it's up to the Dolan's to continue donating to Brantley's bank.
Jose currently ranks 76th all time for doubles in a season, can move up significantly with the remaining games
Active players with 50+ doubles in a season
-Matt Carpenter
-Dustin Pedroia
-Jonathan Lucroy
-Miguel Cabrera x2
-Alex Gordon
-Manny Machado
-Albert Pujols x3
-Matt Holiday
Only Miggy, Machado, and Pujols did it at 24 y/o or younger
Driving 3 and 1/2 hours to Seattle on Saturday to take my son to his first MLB game. Exciting times!! We will be on the Indians side (of course) down left field line, 5 rows back. Maybe a foul ball will come our way.
